Nice point, Time2punt, it's difficult knowing that Cobb came to town, met his "future" team, and then walked out on them a couple of days later. It's really sad for the Colonel kids, who have obviously gone through a lot the last nine months. Cobb told his kids at Somerset that he was moving on and even made the comment to the media in Henderson that he was "gong home," which is a feel good thing. Then, changes his mind. Obviously, in the scope of things, Hendo is a much better job than Somerset, and that's not a put down of the Brian Jumpers. They have got it going up there. But, there's still something untold here that changed Cobb's perception after he came to town. Was it the landscape (lawsuit cloud, the administration, the condition of the program). Or, did Supt. Wilson Sears, a former fb coaching great in his own time, talk him into staying or did he "sweetin the pot." Only Jaybird could answer these questions.

This thing's been fishy since the day the story broke. First, a press release was sent out late Wednesday afternoon of last week announcing Cobb as the man. Then the next morning Cobb told WSON that he did not accept the position. Then he called the station back a couple of hours later and said he had accepted and that he was told they wouldn't release the story until he had a chance to meet with the team. Guess he got a little ticked. Then he came to Henderson, met the team, interviewed a few coaches (Friday), went with the team to a passing league in Bowling Green (Saturday), went home and then calls back at 9 a.m today (Monday) and said he wasn't coming. What a guy. He did sign a contract and said he would overnight his resignation tomorrow. The hiring committee is meeting this afternoon and we should have number two choice offered the job at any time. This is the second time in the last three hires that this has happened to HC. In '94, Tom Duffy was the THIRD choice. Marty Jaggers was number one but turned them down. Of course, we all know about the railroad job between the Supt. and Tom Duffy in getting the job for little Duffy three years ago. No interviews that time, and only one offer--to little Duffy, on an "interim" basis. Here's hoping they don't go "interim" this time.

The WSON reporter said Cobb told him he hadn't made a decision either way. He said there were several variables that were causing him to have second thoughts. Apparently, according to the report, Cobb said he told the school district that he would let them know at noon today. But, the school district released a press release yesterday to the media saying he had accepted. Something doesn't add up. Why would HC release this if he told them he needed some time to think it over?

Somerset Football, you had better check with your sources. HC Schools sent out a press release this afternoon and announced that Jay Cobb had accepted the offer to coach at Henderson County. It was released to the media this afternoon.

So, what is the status? Is he still contemplating the move, wanting time to think it over, second guessing himself.......?

So was he offered the job, or was this a false report?

Maybe he had second thoughts and was allowed to unresign.

If the HC personnel people have called other candidates and said that the job has been accepted by another candidate, does this mean Cobb told them he'd take the job and is now pulling a Billy Donovan?

HC has won three of the last five regional titles, so they are accustomed to that. They have only had about 30-35 players on the team, and fans have been critical of the program for that. Did Cobb have a sizeable roster at Somerset?

How long did he coach at Knott Co?

Correction, 73-38. From '06 back he was 9-5, 12-2, 5-6, 9-3, 5-6, 9-3, 10-2, 10-4, 4-7.

Off the KHSAA website they have scores posted for the past 10 years. He was 78-38, made it to the Class A final four three times, but never made it to the finals. Not sure when he came to Somerset, but he did coach at Webster, which borders Hendo, before he went to Somerset.

Is, was, the Anderson Co. job even open?

You sure he isn't going to Henderson County.They hired today and it hasn't been announced yet. One unsuccessful candidate, Mike Jackson, was told the Hendo committee had "gone in a different direction," meaning he wasn't the choice.

You're right Hearsay, they better dot some i's and cross some t's. Two year probation for all sports, didn't even own a heat index reading instrument, kept an inelgible kid on the team even though they were told by the KHSAA he was ineligible. This will all work out for the better, hopefully, but it's been a slow and painful process for the Hendo faithful. Should have a new on board in a couple of days.

This whole scenario is a little bit skewed. It is not only going to have a big impact on HC, but think about the situation of the school from where the coach is coming.

Henderson County will not hire within. There are no qualified candidates that are currently on the staff. Brian Bobbitt, who worked as an assitant last year, resigned and and is currently conducting workouts, and is not in the picure as a candidate, although some say he has applied They are participating in seven on seven in Owensboro this weekend and at WKU next week. They have a dire situation with assistants. Five have resigned since last season (including Bobbitt), and they have only one left that is a school district employee. So, as good as hiring within might sound, it ain't gonna happen. If the program was where it needed to be, with quality assistants, that might be good logic. Good news is, there are some very good applicants and the hire will happen within the next week. That's going to make it difficult, especially with the dead period coming up. But that's the hand that they have been dealt and they'll have got deal with it. One of the key elements to the new hire is the flexibility to hire some help. I think you'll see an administration that will be helpful in getting some assistants who are also ulltime teachers.
