East 44 West 14 (2007 NKY East/West All Star Game)

Featured Replies

The kicker, #11, for the East squad did a nice job sending the ball well into the endzone on kickoffs. Seemed like an effortless kick for the lad. Who was the kicker for the East and where is he headed for college?

They ran out of programs by mid 1st Qtr. The kids exchanged school decals - it was a challenge to figure out who was underneath the helmet and which highschool was being represented... :creepy:

The East kicker was Ross Uminger from Ryle. Ryle fans have watched him kick like that for years, lots of touchbacks. Has been their kicker since he was a Freshman. His 36yard field goal was also a strong kick. Has been accurate with great distance on field goals also. Extra points are automatic for him. He is going to Kentucky as a prefered walk on.

Ws a very entertaining game, the boys all put on a great show. Good luck to all!!

Both of my boys were fortunate enough to have played in this game and I got the same feeling from seeing Boone Co.'s and Ryle's decals on their respective helmets (due to the county rivalries since they went to Conner). The truth is though, this is a great idea and tradition, and I think it works great!

Congrats to this year's players on both the East and the West. I'm sure you all will remember this experience for a long time.

When the helmet came home the first time (which by the way was bought from the school and had not been touched since the last time it was worn) with decals all over it , my first question was "do they come off?". After the game he asked if we could buy another case, one for the official senior season helmet plus all the decals and one for another helmet that was a practice helmet that was given to us. Of course no problem on the extra case. What impressed me was the fact that he wanted to keep his beloved helmet, battle scares and all, plus all the decals from the All Star game decals, (which most are some fierce rivals) on his one and only helmet.

This just let me know how awsome and fun the all-star game is and I hope it continues. Cudos to the sponsors of this event.

I'm quite surprised that Ross Uminger is going to KY as a "preferred walk-on". This kid can flat out kick. Perhaps one of the best kickers to come out of No. Ky in quite some time. I know that he gave the Camels fits keeping them backed up in their first meeting this year. Perhaps it's Ross' dream to play at Kentucky?

Otherwise, I beleive he could play in many D1 programs!

The kid will do well no matter where he goes. I've had the pleasure of watching him kick the last four years and he is pretty much money in the bank when he goes on the field. Glad to hear he's going to UK so I can make sure to continue to watch him. With the bunch they have down there it won't be long until we'll be watching him on Saturday I'll bet.:D

I basically had the exact same experience, only the kicker is my kid got to play for Dale for a few weeks. When it was over he told me he would've loved to have done so for four years.  :D

I also had the same experience. Both of my sons were blessed enough to play in the all star game '05 and '07. When my oldest came home with all of the stickers on his helmet I was "quite upset" but after thinking about it and talking to my son about the experience I realized just how cool it was. My son told me "anybody can buy their helmet but you have to earn the stickers of the teams you played with on the all star team" I guess that puts it all into perspective.:thumb:

Did I hear that Holy Cross' Matt Abeling won a scholarship?

Yes, an academic scholarship to Notre Dame University... and well deserved. Matt is brilliant, humble and kind to everyone.
