Lebron's Priorities?

Featured Replies

One reason I still have a small bit of respect for Mark McGwire in spite of his clamming up at the Senate hearings on steroids was his standing up and being at the birth of his son his rookie year. He missed his final game of the season and ended up with 49 home runs when he had a chance to hit number 50. When asked about missing that opportunity McGwire said, "I will have other chances to hit 50 home runs but only one chance to be at the birth of my child." Family has to come first and I pray that nothing goes wrong during that child birth because he will have to live with that the rest of his life.

Wonder if he was thinking about his wife and children when he was injecting a substance in his body that could possibly end his life at an early age?

It was a loaded question....There is no way he could have answered that and not been criticized.

I disagree. The way he said it was wrong IMO and I'm sure he didn't mean anything by the way he said it. He simply needs to learn how to answer questions more effectively.

He could have said, "It is going to be a really tough decision if it is one I have to make, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it" or something of that sort.

I agree! Had he answered that he will be there for his child's birth he would have been blasted by media for not being focused on the finals.
The same way they blasted Derek Fisher of the Jazz for missing a game and part of another?

I know exactly where I would be if I were in this situation, but the only people that should be concerened about this are LeBron and his wife.

Who knows? They may have spoken about this situation and how they would handle it before hand. The two may have come to a compromise about it. Looking at it from his perspective, King James can afford to have many more children, but this may be the only time he has the chance to play for an NBA championship. Many great players have played their entire careers without seeing the NBA Finals.

WIth that being said, I'm sure if complications arose from the childbirth James would walk off the floor to be with his family. I feel confident in saying that.

Regardless at least he was man enough to be there for his childs birth and I give him credit for that decision.

You still don't know if he would have went if he was going to miss a WS game. I'm not saying I agree with Bron one way or another. You just happened to select a guy I can't stand as a role model for dads. Like I said earlier these things are none of our business. I give Big Mac credit only for being a Big Fraud

I personally think they only way to criticize him for this decision is if his wife wants him there and he doesn't go.

If his wife is of the position he needs to play the game than so be it.

It is MORE IMPORTANT than he is a dad for all the days AFTER the birth than to be in the room during the birth.

As far as the 5% of times that the birth is not routine, this was my biggest fear during the birth of my children. Because I was there and it wouldn't have mattered. Cause I would have been useless as I have no knowledge, besides prayer, on what to have done if my children would have been one of the 5%.

I am going to guess that Lebron would have been in the same boat. Useless besides prayer.

It doesn't matter whether or not he could do anything physically to help if something went wrong, you should still be there for your family. That is like saying that it doesn't matter whether or not to see someone if they are in the hospital because all someone can offer is prayer and support unless they are the actual physician. Being there for a loved one, offerering support and showing that you WILL be there in their time of need, that is important and cannot be underestimated.
