Randy McCoy at University Heights?

Featured Replies

According to local chatter, University Heights will hire Randy McCoy, who coached at Elkhorn City and Pikeville College. He's been out of coaching for a while, since he stepped down at Pikeville.

Has McCoy coached anywhere else?

He was an Assistant Coach, at Morehead State, also.

Who else has UHA considered?

Allen Hatcher

Darrell Hallmark

Tommy Wade

Other names that at one point drew some mentioning were Bill Chumbler, Kelley Carwile (I am not sure if he was ever interested), & Al Cooper from over in Clarksville, TN. I don't think Cooper applied but his name was thrown around for a day or two. He's not a UHA type of guy and 4-5 years ago informed some that the UHA people needed to stay on their side of the border. It's obvious as to what he was getting at.

McCoy seems to be someone that will fit in at UHA. The new Coach will be taking over a senior class that has underachieved but with the right coaching could be the best in the region. He will also inherritt a freshmen to be class that is loaded and could be one of the best UHA groups to come through.

McCoy has only been out of coaching for a year and a half and stepped down due to health issues.

Health is good now...McCoy would do a great job there.

They could just apologize to Jeff Jackson and ask him if he'd want to return.

Someone posted on another site that McCoy has been officially hired by UHA. Anyone know if this is true? Good luck Randy and hope you are back in E. Ky someday.

They just reported it the news that is was a done deal.

He is a perfect fit for UHA

Agreed. Best of luck Randy.

Taylor Sparks is joining him as his Assistant Coach. All the rumors going around about who the Assistant was going to be and Sparks was never one mentioned. He's joining UHA as a Volunteer Coach. Sparks & McCoy seem to be a good pair for UHA.

UHA should return to their normal status of powerhouse. Bad news for the small class "A" schools but they are familiar with the UHA monster of old.

Wow, I know that all the class A schools in the second region, just hope that UHA does not get back to the status they had in the last part of last century. Impossible to beat! At that point in time privite versus public was not even a possibilty. What should be done to make private schools that win every year a Class A tournament? At that time they had 5 starters that started their first year at a D1 School. And plenty that made pro status! For these young kids sake, give a seperate tournament for public and private schools, and make rules for transfers

University Heights has never, to my knowledge, had five starters that went on to play Division I basketball. The 1995-96 team did have four.

And, aside from Greg Buckner, has UHA ever had a player even make an appearance in the NBA?
