Great Job, Coach Dean and the Cougars. People had better not overlook Powell County in the future.

Yes they did. I just wonder who was responsible for getting those kids fundamentally ready. They had only been to the region 6 consecutive years prior to last season. With 4 district championships and 3 14th region runner-ups during that time, I would say that those kids knew how to play the game. -- I wonder if the same will be said for them a few years from now. Time will tell.

I agree that Coach Dean had a lot to do with Powell's kids being ready for last season's championship, but Chris Varney is a very good coach and earns as much credit. He knows the game and can teach it. Look at Hazard since he has left there from being an assistant. Powell will remain one of the top teams in the region for years to come.

:thumb: This is more correct. I'm sorry UK Sports fan and Cowboy you all just dont know completely what your talking about. By the way this season Powell did post 23 wins just happened to have to play one of the best teams first round of district. But Coach Dean is a good coach not taking anything away from him glad to see him grab a regional title. Congrats Coach Dean.

Not taking anything away from Dean or Letcher but im not sure Letcher would have made it out of the 56th if they were in Powell's position either with a tough Estill County team....Coach Varney had a solid team this year and providing they got past the first round could have easily hung back to back banners in there gym...Powell will always be in contention and i agree so will Letcher if Dean stays...they have too many people and too much talent walking through that big school not too....Congratulations Coach Dean im glad that you finally got it done

The 53rd or whatever district LCC is in needs a good coach. The 56th is fine espically with last year's hire of Powell's new coach.
