Letcher County Central 9 Leslie County 7

Featured Replies

Letcher Central wins the 14th region tournament, played at Perry Central. Letcher Central scored 6 runs in one inning early in the game to take a 6-0 lead, then Leslie came back to score 7 in one inning to re-take the lead. Letcher Central answered with a 3 run inning to go in front 9-7, and held on to claim the championship.

Congratulations to Coach Bryan Dean and the Cougars. It was Dean's fourth time in the regional championship game (3 times at Powell), and he finally won it. Now it's on to Pikeville for the sub-state.

It seemed like Fleming-Neon and Whitesburg fielded some nice teams over the years; its nice to see the combination win a region! Good luck in the sectional!

Congrats to Letcher Central on their first regional title. Good luck in the sectionals.:thumb:

Coach Dean, is an outstanding coach and I have tremendous respect for him. I hope he gets his field soon, as the players, staff and community certainly deserves it.

His field? Do they not have a field at Letcher yet? Where have they been playing?

No, there is not a completed Baseball field, at the new school location. It received considerable damage, during construction of the school, with stored materials and other factors.

I presume, either the former Fleming-Neon or Whitesburg fields.....PD, would this be accurate?

Correct. I think we played LCC on the Fleming Neon field.

I think Whitesburg played at a park up on a hill, much like Neon. I'm guessing for travel reasons they're at Whitesburg's old place. Is there a time period on opening the new park at LCC?

After this season's run, hopefully next season. Those boys really deserve it.

I'm sure its upsetting to see such a great football field with no baseball field yet!

In as competitive Region, like the 14th, LCC's Administration needs to find a way, to get this field complete, for many reasons.

Baseball always seems to be the last program to get to stick their hand in the piggy bank. I'm guessing its the same at Letcher Central!

I remember when Knott had a tough time getting a new field. When they got it, it was well worth it.

As good as LCC's baseball program has been and the accomplishments of this season, Letcher's BOE will find a way to get them their field.

It helps that the pre-consolidation programs were good; baseball is a front-burner sport for many people down there. Knowing that, the BOE should get the field up and running quickly.
