Outstanding performance by both Bleser of CovCath and Kohman (sp) of Boone. Boone out hits CovCath 5-3 but walks and two Boone errors led to Boone's downfall. Bleser, Darner, and Maile I believe got the the timely hits for CovCath and Kohman walked in one of the runs. CovCath outfielders of Stein, Reis and Darner caught everything hit there way and Josh was in complete control for most of the game. Great win for CovCath....

 

What a beautiful day/night for baseball, and even with the morning rain that came down in buckets, it was great. BTW; kudos to the Beechwood players who helped put the tarp on the field in the pouring down rain, while the Newport players just sat, stayed dry in the dugout, and watched. Not a good example of sportsmanship at all Newport! :irked:

While you did help take the tarp off after the rain stopped, you should have been out helping the Beechwood kids in the rain... Again good job Beechwood....

 

BTW, a huge thank you to Mr. Brown the owner of the Florence Freedom for allowing these games to be played at his field. Anyone who went to these games today needs to attend a Freedom game, just to say thanks to Mr. Brown and the Freedom.... Thanks again......

Very solid performance by the Cov Cath defense. I will second the opinion that anything hit into the Cov Cath outfield tonight found a glove no matter where it was hit. Those guys can definitely cover some ground!

Those pitches were very very VERY close. I'm not sure how you lay off them, but the call seemed to fall the way of the Colonels tonight. Big calls however because that would have been out #2. Instead a run scored and the second crossed the plate on a sac fly that would have been the third out of the inning had those pitches gone the other way.

We were wondering where the heck they missed too. Looked pretty good from where we were sitting. And yes, Mark Reed was the player with the cast. His bat in the lineup may have made a difference tonight.

Very true cshs. Especially when two CC players were rung up later in the game on pitches not nearly as good as the ones that were called balls 3 and 4 at crunch time early. No way those pitches were too high or too low and Cory never moved his mitt. Interesting????? The better team ended up winning, though, and that's the way it usually works out. Congrats to CovCath and great effort by Boone.

Boone missed a couple of important bunt opportunities early on that may have helped them push across a run. BIG difference in coming back from 2 or 3 down, as opposed to 4 down, especially against a team like CC who just doesn't give away many runs.

 

Watching the end of the Dixie-Highlands game, I also noticed that Dixie failed to get down a bunt in bottom of 7th (and since runner took off without seeing bunt down, he got nailed at 3B). Then in bottom of 8th with man on 2nd and no one out, I found it interesting that Dixie elected not to bunt him over to third given they had the middle of their order coming up. Different strokes for different folks, but I would think that the vast majority of coaches bunt in that situation. Ultimately doesn't matter since Dixie wins, I guess.

 

But, in general, you can never preach enough to your boys about the important of bunting. What an effective offensive weapon.

No doubt Krohman got squeezed on the corners with Bleser - two Rebels were rung up on the same pitchers in the top of the 1st. I think the turning point in the game was in Boone's first when they could not get the bunt down and then struck out looking in the 2 and 3 hole. Scoring in the first may have made some difference in confidence, etc... as the game went along. I will say that Krohman was impressive vs. a very tough lineup, but Boone undoubtedly outhit the Colonels tonight. Defense was the difference, lots of "at tem" balls for Boone tonight.

Great win for the Colonels. But I wouldnt say that Boone undoubtedly out hit CCH. 2 or 3 of Boone's hits were bloopers, I'm not taking that away from them just saying.

 

As for Krohman great pitcher and great kid, really kept CCH off balance tonight, should help them to adjust down the road.

Everyone is right on about the game tonight!! Every post I have read has been accurate and on the money!!

 

I will throw my 2 cents in there...This may have some bias coming from a Rebel but I will keep it real.

 

- The 2 pitches called for balls in the first inning....:fight: WOW!!!!!!!! Beautiful pitches that were called strikes all night long. Most of you have agreed. The umps did a great job all day. And they guy behind the plate for this game did a fine job as well. But I was right behind home plate and those pitches were definitely strikes. Might have made a huge difference in the ball game. And IMO was the momentum changer......My props to Krohman he pitched a great ball game. And to be honest I thought he was near dominate after the first. Only a couple more Colonel balls hit hard the rest of the way. One exactly the double in the gap that made the score 4-0 was a killer......Not scoring Corey in the first also hurt the Rebels to.

 

- Boone hitters IMO were all over Bleser but hitting the ball right at people. I have been home now for 3 weeks and that's the best I have seen them hit since. Hit a lot of hard shots that couldn't find the holes. Obviously a key factor in the game.

 

I won't say the better team won because I just can't do that to my boys. But the colonels are tough! If I had one word to describe Cov Cath it would be SOUND and that can win you a lot of ball games!!!!!

 

They didn't do much at all against Krohman but were still having good Ab's and were making the most of there opportunites.....Defensively nothing spectacular but SOUND Ex. Holocher and Popham were good all night. OF's were making all the many routine plays. Basically all the routine plays, they made with ease and looked solid doing it. Typical of what you can expect from a Cov Cath baseball team, doing things the right way. Bleser tonight was good but from having seen him for 3 years I didn't think he had his best stuff. Not a radar gun but I would say 80-82, the curve was okay but not as good as I have seen it, and same with the other stuff. But what makes him so good is that he has been there before many many times. He battled without his best stuff, kept composure despite this which showes poise, and he found ways to get the OUTS even if Boone was hitting balls hard....The Colonels do things the right way. I wasn't overly impressed but fundamentals and solid play can go along way. It worked tonight and if they keep it up might work the rest of this tournament. Enjoyed this baseball game, wish my team could have pulled it out though...but congrats on the victory and good luck the rest of the way!!

and one more thing...this was my first chance at seeing Maile....He is the real deal and as advertised!! Being a sophomore this kid has a very very bright future.
