Thats a shame for a school like Corbin. They should recieve alot of coverage in football this coming season. Its a different area though. Laurel Co is more spread out than the Ashland area. There are alot of schools within 10 miles of each other.

 

Well, Corbin has its own daily paper, so it's not like the Redhounds and the other schools nearby Corbin are hurting for coverage. Corbin does a pretty good job of hitting the eight schools in their coverage area, given their limited resources, but Corbin HS does dominate the coverage.

 

And with the Sentinel-Echo coming out three times a week, anything they would run about Corbin HS would be old news by the time it hit the street. With the Sentinel and the Corbin Times both owned by the same company (the same that owns the ADI), not much sense in the Sentinel bothering with Corbin.

Has it really been 5 years? Man, time flies.

I must say that the independent did a VERY good job on the Lady Rams of Raceland ending the 6yr. 16th region reign of Russell in girls softball by beating the Devils in the 63rd district.. The articles on that by G. Taylor (I think was the name) were excellent.

 

MUCH more important than the game story was the story on a Raceland h.s. student that was killed in a boating accident a couple of days earlier and how the students and this team had banded together in a very tough time (and still are)

This is the truth. There are members of our family that have worked there for years. Not in the sports department but in a more administration role. The truth is no matter how you slice it. No matter if they change their name or not its really not the Daily Independent it is the Ashland Daily Independent. They are located right in Ashland right beside of the Ashland City Building. There will always be arguments about this issue because the other communities do not have their own paper. I was told that if I really wanted something in the paper to pick up the receiver and call. Even then it is up to the reporter what goes in and what doesnt. It is not based on your opinion. I would like to write in their the boys or girls I know are just the best in the state of Kentucky etc.. that doesnt mean that will be their opinion. You may get one line you may get 5. Lets make this the truth. The paper is who they are and where they are and that would be Ashland. You choose to get it and read it for who and what they are. If they cover other schools then they do so to widen the publication. It is still a buisness.
