Okay, my daughter will be going to college this fall, and she needs a new cell phone. It has to be one from the new AT&T as they have the best coverage in Western Kentucky, or so that is what I have been told by many. Now the question is what plan and phone to buy? She of course whats all the bell and whistles, me I don't want it to cost me a mint, but I am more concerned with the plan to purchase. The GoPhone Pay As You Go plan sound great, but....

Note; she has had a prepaid Verizon phone since her freshmen year in high school and has been very responsible with it....

Any advice or help would be very much appricated....

I would continue with the pre-paid phone, that way you don't run into any surprises. BUT if that's not an option, go with a plan that has the unlimited nights and weekends. Course kids today like their text messages and I wouldn't know the first thing about how many of those you can have a month.

If you (she) text on a daily base you should get unlimited. I think the most I did in a month was like 2,400 that was a few years ago though. I don't text that much now.

I know AT&T has a unlimited texting for an additonal $5.00 a month more in their regular plans, but don't know if that option is avaiable in the goPhone pick your plan....

Phones have a TON to do with your service. Some cell phones are as strong as a landline. Others are not, and you will get dropped calls often. My Motrolla PEBL works like a landline. I love it. T-Mobile gave it to me for free. I have never had a dropped call from all parts of Cincy and down to Richmond, Lexington, KY.

Go with Cingular/AT&T and purchase a plan that will give her unlimited nights and weekends, no roaming, nationwide long distance, and rollover minutes. I downgraded my plan with Cingular because of the amount of rollover minutes that I had accumulated over time. As for the phone, you can usually get a phone for free with the plan you choose. I currently have a Motorola Razr and I have been really happy with it. For work, I have an LG phone and it isn't nearly as good of a phone as the Razr is. I also had the Nokia 6102 and it was a really great phone and I believe that you can purchase it for around $25 with a 2 year plan. Just go to Cingular.com and check out the options to see what is best suited for you!:thumb:

I've had a Razr for over a year with no problems, but make sure you get insurance just in case, the $5 a month is worth it if she ever loses or breaks it
