Beechwood Position

Interesting.

Where are all of the Bwood b-ball folks that used to be on here?

Graduated...:sssh:

You don't even interview anyone else? Taking a frosh coach without any varsity experience and not even interviewing a coach with varsity head coaching experience shows what they think about the basketball program at Beechwood...

Who is this candidate with head coaching experience? Maybe they decided to go with someone who is actually teaching there, lives in the area and has ties to the area that go back to his high school playing days. I don't think the Dixie frosh job was his first go round in the coaching arena.

I don't know anything about Shumate and I'm not saying they made the wrong decision. He may very well be the perfect candidate. However, it seems they took the easy way out...

Bottom line, if you're serious about your program you interview unless it's an absolute no brainer...

Best of luck to Coach Shumate...

Agree. Coach S may be a great hire. Young team. Young coach. Maybe it works out just fine.

However, it sure seems they went the safe route and did not want to go through the fiasco they went through last time.

Your right, Shumate coached the JV at Scott during Jeff Trame's last years of coaching.

Shumate is a very good hire for Beechwood.

This very well could be one of their most talented teams ever this year.

They should dominate the D-3 conference and should compete for the all "a" as they did a couple years ago.

So we're all in agreement?

What are we supposed to agree with?

The administration wanted a teacher, there is only a science position open. We can't create a teaching job, so the no-brainer is....Someone with experience who's already in the building. It's not exactly dissing the basketball program. IMO, it shows respect for the program that they see the need and benefit to having the coach be close to the players on a daily basis.

I'm not picking a fight or trying to be a smart aleck....just an observation.

Not trying to pick a fight either, my observation is from the other side. Just think that if they were serious about their program they'd weigh all options. There are many sports that are successful without their coach being in the building. Look at baseball...

Again, not saying Shumate isn't the best candidate but they went about it as if it was a burden, not a duty...

Does anyone know who some of the 14 applicants were?

Has Beechwood ever claimed to be serious about their basketball program?
