Top WR's this year in '07

I beg to differ...Harlan's Michael Bianchi (kicker) held the talented Mr. Cole to around 20 receiving yards in Harlan and Somerset's first game this past season. And I believe the second game held him under 40. There's a funny story that goes along with this I suppose I'll share (not to poke fun at Somerset or John Cole...because everybody knows he's one of the most talented receivers Eastern Kentucky's ever had.) But it was late in the first game, and emotions were flaring, and Mr. Bianchi said something that must have pushed Mr. Cole's buttons and Cole proceeded to say to Bianchi: "I run a 4.4 forty! What do you run?" and Michael cleverly responded: "Buddy I don't know, I'm just the kicker." Cole walked away with his head hung...and YES before someone from Somerset replies...YOU ALL WON! Congradulations! Good luck in class AAA, we wish you all well!

The field was also in very poor condition for the first game. Weather affects the way routes are ran.

This is true, but it also affects coverage skills too.

Man I remember that game, field was a mess. Field had alot to do with it but if I remember right, Ross Deaton was off that night passing the ball. Everything was short all night, not taking away from Harlan's D because off all the games that I watched last year they by far had the best D--sorry Southwestern.

Tommy Gifford is an all around great athlete for lafayette. Speed is amazing!!! Look for him to be used more with the parting of chris tune. Also marquis clay should be used more this year. Thats only if dunbar doesnt run every down this year. Also Aaron Boyd will be great this year but Henry Clay always has some recievers step up. Remember Prince Stewart.

Gifford is a heck of an athlete.:thumb:

I dont think its a rumor. Ive seen Gibson and Bustle both get reps in at QB, which should make for an explosive offense once you add Ponzer and company.

SK has two great choices at WR in Gibson and Ponzer, and it isn't just a rumor that Gibson will be taking some snaps for the Pioneers this year. He may be a better passer than Bustle but I look for most passes to come from Bustle with Gibson and Ponzer running routes, making teams choose which one to cover. The issue for this team is will the line be able to block, and if they do give Bustle time will he be able to consistently put the ball on the money.

Those were two good games.....in the first as you remember the field was a mess and neither team seemed to want to show too much, knowing they would in all likelyhood meet again. Deaton had a poor night throwing the ball.

In the second I would guess it was more than 40 yards rec., but it wasn't really needed as the ball was spread around very well and we won by 28. In that game there was also a lot of help over the top from a safety which is what opened up the rest of the field so much for the other recievers. Maybe Bianchi can cover him one on one but he had plenty of help in the second to the detrement of your team. They were so focused on John that they pretty much gave up everything else.

Tis' true "father of a jumper", our focus on both games was to slow down mr. cole's attack, and we did. However, the game isn't won by slowing down one receiver, Somerset was loaded these past two seasons and did a good job utilizing their talent. But like my good friend said in an earlier post, the wet field ALSO effects the secondary's ability to cover, but I also believe as a team we were wanting just to punish John Cole instead of focusing on winning the game. Anyways, before I start something no one else can finish, I'll throw out Bradford Marsili's name, maybe not top in the state but definetly should be one of the top threats in the region. 6'1 body, 180lbs? low 4.7 forty, and has around a 32 inch vertical? Didn't get to see much playing time last season (as expected) playing behind great talent like Will Pope.

And another name from around the region: Shaunte Zachary of the Bell County Bobcats should scare some other teams this year.

Trinity also has the Radcliff kid who I think is a sophmore who will be a great speed receiver, just as fast at the Duttons and great hands. Anthony Kelley a senior could also help this year.
