May 2, 200719 yr You guys are driving me nuts. They compared fouls called on white and black players by white refs to fouls called on white and black players by black refs. It's a comparitive evaluation. Example: White ref crew calls 40 fouls in a game- 35 on white players and 5 on black players. Black ref crew calls 40 fouls in a game- 37 on white players and 3 on black players. Now, in raw numbers, the white players are getting boned pretty bad. But that's not the point- the point is that the white crew calls more fouls on black players and fewer on white players than the black crew. That's what the study found. So it doesn't matter if there are more white refs, and it doesn't matter if there are more black players, and it doesn't matter if players of different races tend to play different positions. The raw numbers aren't under examination. Charles Barkley made a good point. Go and study the black officials and see if the results aren't exactly the same. Regardless, Stern said he did his own research and found no problems. This is just someone getting worked up over nothing.

May 2, 200719 yr Again, I am not trying to back up their conclusions. I just want to make sure that everyone knows how this was done, and what exactly it is that they were talking about, because most of what has been said in this thread to explain the results is incorrect.
May 2, 200719 yr  They did study the records, and the results are similar, but not the same... it was the second sentence of the story. I didn't read the link, I am going by what I heard on Dan Patrick's show. Regardless, this study is stupid, and it's just someone looking to prove that officials are racist. It's stupid, and IMO it's wrong.

May 2, 200719 yr Goes to show that you, I and anyone else on BGP who wants to do a "study" can do just about anything with numbers. There has to better uses for money than this. The devils is always in the details.
May 3, 200719 yr I would like to see, how many 6'-8" players, commit 3 second half fouls, on Tuesday's, after 9:00pm, if there team was trailing at half, but have taken the lead in the first minute of the 4th quarter, before the first TV timeout, while missing 5 consecutive 3pt shots and, yes and....are on the road. Now that is study, which is similar to this one....insignificant.

Maybe the guy that did this study should go to the local hangout and see how many women give him a look. Now that's a study.

May 3, 200719 yr It's the second sentence of the thread, too. What do you want me to say, other than I didn't read that? I skipped over it...can you not understand that?
May 3, 200719 yr This was a very pointless study IMO. :thumb: :thumb: That pretty much says it. Also just as pointless for anyone to try and come up with an explanation / justification for it. The only explanation is that whoever came up with this is just trying to stir up something that there is NO explanation for.
