PCC vs Hazard next year will be a hard ticket, the first time will be at Hazard too! I'm thinking this is like Rick Pitino leaving UK and going to U of L. Best wishes to Coach Holland.

Surely they would not let Coach Spurlock come back to Perry county! He is a good guy, but has showed his weak coaching ablility in the big games. Coach Holland out coached him many times. Yes he won some big games too, but it helps when you had the best talent in those games. Not hard to coach talented teams. Look what happened this year, true coaching had to happen because they didn't have a very talented superstar. The new coach at Perry Central will have to be a good people person and be able to control everything that a coach has to deal with. Should probably be announced by next week. There have been several applications of great coaches interested and should be a great interviewing process to find the right man for the job.

Cavanaugh Trent would be my choice if he is intereted.

Word is that Coach Holland called meeting with his players and coaches to let them know that he will not be returning as coach next year due to unresolved conflicts. There have been several names mentioned to replace coach Holland, but will be hard to find someone that can accomplish what this man has done at Perry Central. In his 15 years, they have went to 10 regional finals winning 7 of them! Coach Holland is a class act and they are losing a great person as well as a coach.

 

Possible replacements: Whitaker from Bell, Randy Macoy (x pikeville college coach), Kyle Lively, Kevin Campbell, Neal Feltner, James Hurley, Brian Hall, Dougie Campbell. Looks like a good list of possible candidates, should be interesting to see who lands one of the premier jobs here in eastern Kentucky.

 

There is know way p.c.c. would give the job to kyle lively he bounces around like a ball trying to coach talent. Lively coaches this year at powell you will see that he can not coach.:confused: :confused:

I really think the Kevin Campbell has put in his time and deserves a shot at the head coaching position. But I don't think that they will put someone in that has never had any HEAD COACHING experience. I think the world of Kevin and he knows the game very well, but I just don't think he will get his shot at this school until he leaves and gets some head coaching job somewhere else and shows them that he can handle the job! If I was him I would try to leave and get one of the other jobs around that are open and then maybe try to come back when this job opens up in a couple of years. Because the way I see it, PCC will be a handful for 2 to 3 more years, dealing with all the on and OFF the court stuff that Coach Holland had to deal with, and someone won't be able to put up with it as long as he did and will want out. I hope that is not how it goes, but it's looking like it.

I suspect a lot of schools would like to have a coach with Spurlock's record in "big games" ...

You're right. Everybody was picking Jackson City to be in the finals of the region 2 years ago. It was a stunning upset when Hazard got lucky to beat them in the finals. Everybody was also on the Powell bandwagon this past year, especially after their 0-3 start when they were outscored by 65 points. Everybody knew they were going to win the district and lose to the eventual regional champion.

Lively is a good kid and gets the most out of his players. He does a heck of a job with what he has and Powell is a big enough school where they will not have to look far for replacements for what they lose this year. I know it will be hard to replace Romans, but I'm sure he will come up with something. Lively has not bounced around either. He done a great job with Jackson City and with them thinking about closing, I see no problem with him trying to better himself and take the job at Powell county. When something better opens up you need to jump on it. Now Perry Central is open and that would be a better step up for him. I'm sure all of you out there that are dogging him, would take a step up in your line of work if it were possible. Give the guy a break.

Lively's style of play would benefit PCC in the coming years.

Coach Whitaker would do a good job. He plays up tempo and would bring his son who is a very good player.
