the Burg has a lot of upcoming 8th graders who are already busting butt in the weight room. I would not be surprised to see 3 or 4 Freshman starting for the burg next year.

it wasn't the people or the hospitality I disliked. Harlan has some great people and Coach Donahoe at Harlan High is a great coach.

The thing I dislike is the trip up 119, then if you have to go to Evarts or Cumberland those final miles which are pure heck.

I've always enjoyed the beauty of a trip up 119 in the Fall. The foliage is spectacular. Winter trips for basketball are a different story.

The trips to Evarts and Cumberland will be a thing of the past in another year or so anyway.

I think the Jackets wil do just fine....

I agree I think Whitley and Williamsburg will both experience some success this year.:thumb:

Who'll be the team to beat in this district this year?

Does it always rain in Cumberland? I've been to dry games in Harlan and Evarts but it is always wet in Cumberland. Roskopf will be tough to stop and Lynn Camp is always big up front.

How is the Burg looking? I heard they had a scrimmage Friday Night.

If I'm hearing right, W'burg has a vetran line and a young skill set of kids. Is that about right?

If the line can hold and give the rookies time, look out, I would guess. I'm going to have to agree with another post here. Hard to just replace Frazier and Hamlin. Could be a rebuilding year or a suprise year with the Jackets. What will Y'all have in the way of running backs????

Either way, we're all guaranteed a play-off spot in the district this year!!!!!

I'm going to guess that C'ville is the early favorite in the district because they are the one everyone recognizes in the state. Lynn Camp and the 'Burg could be the sleepers here.

You do not replace those two great players, but several kids that got reps at the WR spot last year are a year older and better. It looks like WHS may be able to run a little better than in years past, and the coaching staff seems to have the kids excited about what they are doing. The O-line is improving steadily led by Elias Abner at center...in the grid one of the teams best, starting LT was out and the OL didn't miss a beat, even though Harlan's OL/DL was bigger and appeared to be stronger. They are a strong unit that will open things up for the Burg. The RB is Will Moses he's speedy, catches, and finds daylight well. One big early injury is a starting LB that could be out a while with a knee. The wildcard is the play of Ryan Moses Soph. starting QB...He along with the rest of the team will be expected to grow up under the lights. For the most-part WHS is a young team...only 5 SR's on the team...two of which start. But they have played as a team thus far, with no individualism...if this can continue WHS can be solid.

After watching Williamsburg in the Panorama against Harlan I came away with a few observations. Coach Herron's play calling was very good. Williamsburg was stopped only twice by turnovers...no punts. Coach Herron mixed runs and passes well and kept Harlan off balance throughout the scrimmage. Defensively I thought Coach Hatcher's plan was sound, but the young Jackets were caught out of position a few times. I can see the coaches fixing this very quickly. It will be interesting to see how the coaching staff handles LCA, a team very similar to the Jackets in offensive philosophy. If the o-line can handle LCA up front, and the Jackets can get a few stops, Saturday at LCA could be an interesting night.
