Should it? If it is an automatic or semi-automatic weapon that has no hunting purpose whatsoever, the uproar will be huge.

Dem Presidential candidates might jump on the bandwagon and try to ride it into the White House, while Rep candidates play the NRA card.

It plays out right and it could be an issue like the Gay Marriage amendments were in 2004.

You're right. Dem candidates will be all over this and I personally cant blame them. I personally don't believe gun control should be an issue. With use of the internet you can find out how to make bombs in a matter of minutes. Guns arent the issue here, it's the people that are in control of the guns that are the true issue.

Substitute "drugs" for "guns."

Substitute "bombs" for "guns."

By the above statement, I suppose you would advocate the legality of drugs and bombs?

No, by no means would I advocate the legality of drugs or bombs.

What would you suggest the government do ? Make guns illegal to the general public ?

I think a key point is to define guns. Guns for hunting, I don't think many have a problem with allowing them.

But the semi-automatics or automatics or whatever the term is that has NOTHING to do with hunting but is for simply being able to own one or for criminal purposes is the question.

It should. It likely won't. I think one of the major problems here is we have little or no control over ammunition sales. We need to get more control of ammunition sales somehow. I think that may help some.

Most shootings are crimes of emotion and passion. If there were more barriers in place to purchasing weapons sometimes crimes can be prevented because of the time it takes to get a weapon and hopefully the ammunition for that weapon.

But honestly things like this shooting at Va Tech? I don't know that all the laws in the world can prevent madman intent on completing a mission. Sociopaths are going to carry out their crimes one way or another, but maybe some of those emotional crimes can be prevented.

I agree with this statement also. Although some people do own semi automatic guns as part of a collection. I own a gun and it's not for hunting it's for my protection and thats all.

Can you define what you consider a weapon ? Should we outlaw knives ? Baseball bats ? Tire irons ? Or anything that could be used to kill someone ?

Gun control is an issue that will always be an issue. I would be willing to bet that the gun used in the VT shooting as with many other cases was obtained by the shooter illegally. If the gov. were to do something to control certian types of guns it would do no good at all in my opinion. Drugs are illegal. Does that stop the growth, sale and usage of marijuana, cocaine, meth and all sorts of other illegal substances ?

I believe it does in this country.

I dont know that I agree with that completely. Watch an episode of cops and it's easy to see how dangerous meth is and how easily and how much of it is being produced.

That's a very naive stance..

Not at all. I think there is a lot of drugs produced in this country. I think it would be more if it was legal. Why is that naive?

Some drugs are brought into this country. A good portion of those drugs might be grown in this country if it was legal.

Some people don't purchase drugs simply because they are illegal. If it was legal to snort cocaine, they might try it since they are not risking a jail sentence.
