Marshall U offers Matt Walls

Featured Replies

For all of those who want to compare Humphrey & Walls, here are Humphrey's HS statistics. BTW, he was Mr. Basketball in Tenn.

Humphrey graduated as the all-time leader in points (2,300) & steals.

Senior Season - 21.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists. Team went 35-5

Junior Season - 21.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.6 steals

He chose Florida over Stanford, Marquette, NC State, South Carolina & Georgia Tech. He was the #45 overall prospect in the nation for the class of 2003, according to Rivals.

Then come out and say it. I'm still a bit skeptical.

I saw him twice last year, too. Besides, you're touting his Sweet 16 performance as putting him over the hump for Mr. Basketball. I saw a nice mid-major Division I player, and there isn't a darn thing wrong with that.

He had plenty of help, too.

I never said he doesn't deserve it. I only said that he will probably get the benefit of the doubt because he and his game are fairly well-known to the Kentucky-Indiana powers that be. Some players in other parts of the state that will be at the tryout don't enjoy the same advantage.

Again, read what I write and quit looking for some hidden meaning. You know my reputation around here ... I say exactly what I think and don't sugarcoat anything. Why would I change course now?

What do you want me to say? Go ask Coach Hicks or whoever. He did get those offers. I don't know if its in a publication anywhere or not, but its common knowledge to most people in this area.

As for the Sweet 16 he had was the star of the quarterfinal and semifinal games and had an off championship game scoring wise, but did get 10 boards and filled up the other categories. His team could not have made it that far without him.

And there you go saying that Jones would get the benefit of the doubt over a kid from say Western Ky. I am simply saying there isnt 12 other seniors better than Jones and I think he will make the team. I can say this because I have actually seen him play.

I just for one just love it when guys like you say a kid wont or cant do something and they prove you wrong, much like people have done with Lofton, Sparks, Neltner, and many others.

Who is going to prove me wrong?

I think Matt Walls will if he decides to go that route. And I think that if Jaron Jones is trying out he will show just how good a player he is.

Matt had a very good workout in front of Gillispie and Cox, he just went off, and made a very good impression.

This doesnt surprise me. I had heard the same thing.

You are barking up the wrong tree here. LMB's information is definitely correct in what he knows about Walls.

I think Walls could contribute early at the mid-major level, such as Marshall. I have to say I would like to see him at a high level school though. He could be a definite contributor down the road.

I have stated an opinion on Matt Walls. However, you persist on assigning one to me on Jones ... who I've never assessed one way or the other.

Yet did say that he would get the benefit of the doubt b/c he was from Lexington. I think you realize in a roundabout way that is saying the kid would not be deserving of a spot.

Well as far as the whole thing about other coaches no thinking he is a big time talent incase people don't remember Chris Lofton would have been playing at Georgetown College if Tennessee didn't have a commit back out. I think Walls could play at Uk and not be a star but a kid that gives them quality minutes and averages about 7 or 8 points a game. He had 22 against the number one team in the nation(6 big time d-1 players). I dont think anyone can take that away.

That's strictly your interpretation. I said only that he would get the benefit of the doubt if he didn't have a very good tryout.

Let's not get carried away. Lofton had all kinds of interest from mid-major schools ... Tennessee just happened to be the one major college program that came through with an offer.

I get a kick out of seeing you back track with your points.

Your backhanded comments about several players are way too noticeable!

Again, your interpretation of my comments are well off the mark. I'm not backtracking from anything. I haven't disparaged Jones in any way. You insist, however, on acting like I have.

More noticeable is the manner in which you seem to take personally anyone's comments about a player that don't agree with your point of view.

This was my original comment about Jones:

Jones will have an advantage, being from Lexington, and could get the "benefit of the doubt" if he has a less than stellar tryout. Some players in other parts of the state don't have that benefit.

Exactly what I restated above ... so how exactly is that "backtracking?"
