Greenup County - The Fed's are on the way

I was accused of being political and that family will still tell you it was. The player that I played and was told it was only a politically move went on to start for 3 seasons at their college. Guess the college coach fell for the politics of the local school system too.

At the same time, I played the assistant superintendent's daughter about 3 minutes per game.

It seems as if the judgements of some on this board concerning Jim Hicks will not change whether he is guilty of anything or not..........if you compare him with other coaches who are both successful or unsuccessful, I am sure you would find that he is just as animated as some and more animated than some and LESS animated than others.......Jim has a passion for the game and for the kids in his program that many people should express in their chosen professions.........Jim loves kids and he loves basketball and to deny him the growing process to become a more mature coach tells me a lot about the character of the persons that are making these judgements........I don't know the super of GC and I don't know the principal that made the racial statements to Jim.......I do know Jim, and to have the character to bring this situation before the Office of Civil Rights at the risk of losing the job that he loves with a passion, tells me that Jim Hicks is the kind of man that I am proud to call "my friend" and if I had a son that could have Jim as his coach, I would be a proud parent...........Hang in there Jim Bob and remember....water reaches it's own level.

No school is perfect and each, have areas to improve. Let's not forget, that many more positive things happen at Greenup County and other schools, than negative.

Administrating, teaching, coaching and instructing young people, is often a tireless and thankless job, but critical in development. Hopefully, all can be reorganized and GCHS, can focus back on academics and athletics.

:thumb: Well stated.

My experience with school systems in Kentucky have been extremely political in nature. I cannot say the last time I have seen a school system ran by individuals who were there in the best interest of the kids. I have seen most ran by people concerned with their own agenda.

I hate the word political. I think it is an excuse that is used way to much by individuals that also have their own agendas. We all want what is best for ourselves and that is an agenda. Only about 15-20% of all people will actually worry about other people while they worry about themselves.

Usually the people that use the word political are just mad because they didn't get what they wanted. Their own agenda!!!

Someone please give the definition of political!

Influence....Power......Money

I am trying to think of another Coach who threatened fans (both his own and opposing team's) during and after a game and no others are coming to mind. Oh wait one other, but he uses the phone. :fire:

Yes there are more animated coaches ---Bobby Knight for 1 , Can't think of any others at this time ----someone said he needed time to "mature" . So he gets a few years to embarrass GCHS while he grows ---SPARE ME !

Hope the truth comes out ---mainly about the alleged recruitment of the kid from Maryland , that was later ruled he had no eligibilty left--Can't remember --Did the KSHAA already rule no violations were found in this case ? The school admin sure has to share some blame in this mess--It was obivious after his 1st year he was not ready to coach a varsity BB team. LB

just saw the thread on the probation ---looks like the GCHS admin and KHSAA think rules were broken , not just bent. So either a whole bunch of folks are wrong OR Mr Hicks is being picked on. I'll eat crow and apologize if I'm wrong but I'd guess Hicks let his desire for wins override his good judgement. He loves BB and I really think he loved the kids , but it's still possable to love kids and BB and screw up big time. If the truth shows he broke recruiting rules I'll never forgive him. One of my fav' sayings is the truth is like water , it always leaks out. I hope it does. LB

Since when is an animated coach a bad thing?

When the animation looks like a spoiled toddler going thru the terrible 2's. To be exact ---When the coaches "animation" interferes with the players ability to concentrate on the given job they are supposed to be doing. Which is just what happened at GC during the hicks years. He was so fired up and over-intense the kids could not relax and play ball. LB

So the coach was "too fired up and intense" and the kids couldn't "relax". I think most of the successful coaches I know want their kids playing intense and if they are indeed playing "relaxed" they will find themselves relaxing on the end of the bench.

If you don't think high school kids can be over-excited for a big game I don't think you understand kids . I mean over excited to the point they can't execute . Not over intense . over excited , over hyped . understand ? Do you disagree ? LB

Seems the kids played better when "over excited" and "over hyped" than after he was suspended and later dismissed. I think the hyped to the max, balls to the wall, system works OK for his uncle. Wouldn't you agree?

I would agree he beat some weak sisters early in the year as he always does

(even runs the scores up nicely) , and that uncle billy has a few more studs than GC ---other than that I think you are nuts . He had what 3 or 4 years to produce ? Won 1 meaningful title , a district championship , big dang deal, GC used to sneeze at those. Going a few games over 500 against that crummy GC schedule now plays is nothing to be proud of. go have a party with the other 20 JBH supportors in the county. Adios LB
