Who is the coach?

Raymond Justice

As of right now, I have heard that Raymond Justice isn't going anywhere if it's up to him. He will still be at Letcher Central as far as he is concerned, but he did get beat out of the district and didn't make the regional tourney that was being hosted by Letcher Central for the first time ever in their new gym. That didn't sit well with the administration, but nothing has been said as of yet about getting someone else! But Hazard and Perry Central are both going to be open soon, Coach Whitaker could be interested in either of those High Profile positions in Eastern Kentucky.

Justice will be at LCC next year unless he is fired. 30-24 isn't what the administration had planned on, but Whitesburg, Fleming-Neon, and Letcher and were not powers in the making at the time of the consolidation. But honeymoon is over and results are expected, even though they may be far-fetched.

 

As far as Whitaker taking over LCC, wasn't considered at the beginning of search, but is a Letcher County boy. Played at Fleming-Neon and coached Whitesburg.

Whitaker was a better coach than Jimbo Terry. I dont think anyone is denying that.

Now, what I am saying is I think Lewis Morris or Rodney Woods would both be an upgrade over Whitaker IMO.

Some of the Bell Co. faithful tell me that Coach Whitaker has been on thin ice since his older son quit the football team a couple of years ago.

If that's true, it should be no reflection on his coaching abilities.

This has nothing to do with it. It has to do with Bell County having great talent and not being able to win even 1 region in the 10 years he coached. There are so many misconceptions about Coach Hilton. He wants Bell County to have a good basketball program. He comes to the majority of the games and supports the team.

I'm not sure what Bell's winning pct. was before Whitaker arrived, but he had a record of 204-84 for a winning pct. of .708.

 

They may have been the best team in the region one of Whitaker's ten seasons and they lost in the regional finals that year to Clay Co. Bell won the district championship all ten years and lost to the eventual region champion 7 out of 10 years with 3 of those losses coming in the finals.

During Coach Whitaker's 10 years IMO Bell had the best team in the region in 98, 2001, 2002, and 2007 (I know this one is very arguable, but they were the most athletic). Also during that time, its not like Bell played in the best district.

I'd say it depends on the coach. Maybe the new one has a son who is even better and is a great coach. It's tough to make that statement right now even though Bell did lose a lot.
