June 6, 200719 yr I didn't know much about the band going into it, I was amazed with all the record company politics that the band went through while recording the album. I know it happens all the time, Wilco was lucky they were well established and could take the album elsewhere. New artists wouldn't have been so lucky. They're not really that established. Most of their airplay comes from "left of the dial" public radio stations. Tweedy had to shell out his own $$$$ to buy it back from the record company, and take it to an indie label for distribution. New artists just wouldn't have had the money, and the album would likely have never been released unless the band made it big later in life, and the record company would've tried to piggy-back on the success.
June 6, 200719 yr I hope I'm not jinxing anything, but it does seem that the folks in the studio have gotten the point that the "Hip-Hopera" commercials were sent by the devil and that everyone hates them, because I'm hearing the "Real Men Of Genius" spots a lot more tonight. BTW, anybody seen this site: Real Men Of Genius Great site, thanks for posting. I remember when they changed it after 9/11 to Men of Genius. There have been a couple cds released with quite a few of them on there. I can't imagine the commercials will ever stop, you have unlimited supply of things you can do.

True, I just know they had released a few albums before Foxtrot and while they didn't sell millions and millions. They had fans and at least had some kind of following. You are right though, you see that happen all the time an album gets re-released or released for the first time after a band hits it big. No Doubt's "Beacon Street Collection" comes to mind after they started selling quite a few albums. Now that I think about it, Shania Twain has gone through that with a few albums of early recordings that have surfaced recently.
