Track The Reds...

I have a question for those of you who know more about MLB than I. Concerning Homer, why would it be a bad idea to call him up, when he is ready, and have him assume the role of closer.

Question on Dunn's HR from Saturday.

Why is the HR that hit the RF in the glove and then bounced over the fence not an unearned run? Obviously it was not going over without help.

It's up to the discretion of the official scorer. It was a "homer" call if you ask me. Go to a different park, and it's an error. IMO, if a guy is going full speed, and the ball hits the tip of his glove when fully extended, then it's a hit. However, in this instance, the fielder wasn't going full speed, the ball hit the palm of his glove, causing it to go over the fence, so I say error.

He's young, he hasn't pitched higher than AAA, and he got knocked around a little in spring training. If he makes the jump from AA to the majors and gets hit around, you take the chance of him losing his confidence and never becoming an effective pitcher. As for a closer, he's been an effective starter his entire (short) career, so no need to move him out of that role. Starters and closers have two totally different mentalities, and if they're grooming him to be a starter, which it appears they are, then there's no reason to move him to closer.

Nees, you and I don't disagree often, and about the Reds probably even less frequently, but IMHO there isn't a park in the bigs that would rule that an error. A guy runs back to the wall and jumps and the ball caroms out of his glove over the fence? That is an error? No way. Never. Not if it had stayed in play and not if it hops into the front row.

Im pretty sure Hamilton gets to start tonight. Did anyone else see this anywhere?

I'll be shocked if he starts tonight against a lefty considering Arizona is throwing Righties on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'd look for him to start one (both with Freel at 2B one day?) of those.

From Lance's blog on 1530:

Have you noticed it?

Anyone notice the "at-bat" song that Jr has used this season?

I did not....but this was pointed out by listener Joe Y.

The song is by a female British rapper named Lady Sovereign.

The song is called "Love me or Hate me" and the chorus

goes (the part played at GABP):

Love me or hate me

It's still an obsession

Love me or hate me

That is the question

If you love me than...

Thank you

And if you hate me than

_____ you (of course no F-bomb in the edited version)

I love Dunn's AB song by Night Ranger.

He has been hitting 3rd against every Lefty. Hits 2nd only against Righties.

The Reds have to face yet another lefty tonight in Doug Davis, so I don't think he'll get the start.

Hey, it's Mr. Late-for-the-party, good to see you. ;) :sssh:
