Donovan on "PTI"

Featured Replies

Boosters maybe so, but the athletic department couldn't compete straight up against Florida.....Football is the money-maker, and when it comes to football there is no one that can compete with Florida on a money level....

Overall Florida's athletic department is banking. Having a top 5 team in not only football and basketball, but also BASEBALL produces the money. Money talks gentlemen. UK won't be able to match a Florida deal.

If they want to land Billy D they better give him a house, Cadillac, and DOG  on a horse ranch.

Once again, Pitino is not going to bail on what figures to be a top-five team next year. That's just asinine.

And why is that?

He bailed on a team that won the National Championship with all the players being his recruits in 1997 at Kentucky.

That's not just "asinine".....that's just "Pitino"!

UK's athletic department budget was $2,073,943 in the black while Florida's was $3,873,730 in the black. Not exactly a huge difference when the two schools had gross revenues over $50,000,000 for the reporting period which was the 2004-2005 school year.

Dude.....That's real close to being twice as much....

Believe me, Billy Donovan coming to Kentucky makes more sense than Rick Pitino, in my opinion. I have told it will be Pitino.

Remember, Florida with all key players back from a National Championship team rarely sold out the O'Connell Center which seats about 12,500. They brought one thousand with them to the SEC tournament. They had about 500 follow them during their first two NCAA games.

It just isn't Kentucky and that is why I would think Billy would be most interested. But........Rick (his mentor) wants the job!

Rick said today he was not going anywhere.

Dude...1.8 million is not a huge sum of money when talking about athletic departments with budgets running in the 10's of millions...try and gain some perspective on the situation before being blinded by the trees...

Why would Pitino want the job when he is slowly turning Louisville in to a more prominent KY team than the Wildcats?

The more prominant team is kind of laughable but he could not live safely in this state if he betrayed both schools fan bases.

Pitino doesn't want the Uk job...if he does and you have proof, I'd love to see it

So, over a ten year span, when Kentucky has banked 20 million, Florida has banked almost 40 million.

Just chmp change, right goherd96?

I think you need to look at the bigger picture over multiple years rather than just one.

Everyone keep this in mind while watching any Rick Pitino/Billy Donovan interview. I find it strange that many people do not remember that just ten years ago, Rick Pitino could not ever tell the truth. He still can't. I have been made aware that Rick Pitino will be UK's next coach. It all makes sense when you really think about it. Ricky P. is Billy the Kid's mentor......Billy would not make a major decision like this without consulting with Rick. Billy would not take the UK job because Rick wants the UK job. Rick is now helping Billy get Florida and Jeremy Foley to ante up......all the while lying through his teeth.......again!

Pitino is not thrilled about living in Lexington, but he will be UK's next basketball coach. I have been told that one Rex Chapman is in the mix as well. He wants to be a head coach and learn it through Pitino kind of like Reggie Theus did.

The timing for the announcement (the real word, not Rick's word) I have told will be late this week. I would speculate it will be early next week after the Final Four, but that is just me trying to think of the best time for all parties involved to get the money right. If Florida wins it again, it might cost the Gator athletic department up to four million a year for Billy Donovan.

I would like some of what you've been drinking. It would make this hospital stay that much more enjoyable.

Again...look at it anyway you want...the overall revenue at UK should be up if you want to lump football basketball and baseball together due to the fact the baseball program and football programs have just had stellar seasons by UK standards and if Billy comes on board, the basketball revenue will also spike upwards. You forget that UK is a basketball school and the the alumni here will raise whatever needs to be raised to cover the difference if need be. They got $30 million together for a basketball practice facility for crying out loud...you think they can't raise whatever is needed to get the coach they want???

Hold the phone! I just heard from a good source that Mark Pope was in the hunt.
