2007 Russell

Featured Replies

:thumb: Thanks. I have heard it form others as well. Seth should be a nice addition to the Devils again this season. With a determined work ethic he is IMO a D-1 prospect.

Wonder if he would like a ride back to Louisville? J/K

Russell will once again be a major force in their class. (AAA) Ivan and his staff are just unbelievable. Seems like they never have a down year and just reload every season. That is also a testament to the kids. There is no magic that is out there to make a good football program. It is just good ole hard work. And the folks in Flatwoods have seen the benefit of hard work.

Beside the obvious kids waitng in the wings like 38 ,13 who steps up for the Devils this year ? This is a reload year at alot of positions , still expect big things from the Devils ... How about # 22 only a soph but Ivan and staff put kids on the field that can play , even if they have to develope some ??

I agree that the time is this year for 38 and 13. They each had their moments last year, but they will need to shine bright in 07-08. Haven't seen much of #22, but from what I have heard, he is going to be an excellent player and could see action on friday nights this year as well. I agree that Ivan and the staff always seem to find that diamond in the rough. 53 and 75?(I think) we be returning to anchor the o-line and also show themselves on defense as well. Having 78(S. Harvey) back with the team is a good start for the d-line.

But with the senior laden squad of last year gone, there are several spots ready to be taken. Can't wait until summer workouts start to see who grabs the upper hand on them.

Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Seth is not moving back to Russell. Personal circumstances make it impossible for me to raise my children there. Seth is enrolled at St.X. He is, however, working hard and trying to live up to his potential. He's dropped 20-25 pounds so far which puts him down to 310-315.

Of course, we do miss everyone at Russell and hope they bring home the title in 3A next year.

Now no one needs to listen to the rumore because you've heard if "straight from the horses mouth".:thumb:

GO DEVILS!!! :fire:

Your son likely has more opportunity to play at the next level coming from St X .... goodluck , lift weights and run short sprints/steps ...

Probably so, but man, I'll miss Friday night at Ivan McGlone field!!! It's an awesome place to watch the red devils play. So far this summer, he's lost 20lbs+. Hopefully, he'll get down to around 310 by the beginning of the season. Thanks for your support, I'll try to keep everyone posted on how he is doing.

Sorry to hear that he is not comming back. Seth was fun to watch out there. Russell loss! X gain! Good luck to you and your family.

Any updates on how practice has gone so far. Who has looked good? Any surprises?

They have been doing some moving around on the defensive side of the ball, and several players have looked good. Mikey Brown and J. Cornwell are both back from injuries and playing on the defensive side of the ball. But the one name that I've been hearing more than anyone so far is Mike Dillon. They said he has been playing really well at the TE spot on offense. At almost 6'3 and 240, they say he is moving guys off the line and has decent straight ahead speed on passing downs. I think they also said he is looking good as a punter as well. The offense has been plugging in guys on the o-line. I have heard Travis Cumpston(sp?), Joey Roark, and Evan Boyd's name mentioned this week as linemen.

The pads go on tomorrow, so we'll get to see some hitting.:fight: :fight: Only an A.M. practice tomorrow.

p.s. - also, just a reminder that the football players and boosters are having their annual car wash and bake sale saturday. The car wash will be at DWI by Super Quik in Russell and the bake sale at Rail City, so if you can stop by and help them out.

I was searching through Russell's roster from 2006, but I can't make out who will play what position in 2007. Can anybody provide a projection for Russell's starting lineup in 2007?

Remember these are from a russell "dad", who hasn't see all of the practices, but have talked to the players. So, here is the "first draft" of a starting lineup.

Offense:

QB- Tyler Jones (Sr)

RB- David Bailey (Jr)

RB- Drew Abrams (Jr)

FB- Will Rice (So)

TE- Mike Dillon (Jr)

FL- Justin Mitchell(Jr) and Max Rogers (So)

C- Travis Cumpston (Sr)

LG- Adam Foster (Sr)

RG- Evan Boyd (Sr)

LT- Tobey Hicks (Sr)

RT- Drew Miller (Jr)

Defense:

DE- Adam Foster (Sr) and Tyler Jones (Sr)

DT- Mike Dillon(Jr) and Mikey Brown (Sr)

Nose - Jonathan Cornwell (Sr)

LB- Evan Boyd (Sr) and Joey Roark (Jr)

Corners - A.J. Cordle (Jr) and David Bailey (Jr)

Safety - Drew Abrams (Jr) and Derek Fosson (Jr)

of course, some of these could change due to injury, hustle and heart, so stay tuned.

p.s. - Meet the Devils is Tuesday August 7th (I believe)

Thanks for the information.

I noticed that you have 6 two-way starters projected for Russell this season:

Tyler Jones

David Bailey

Drew Abrams

Mike Dillon

Adam Foster

Evan Boyd

Good luck in 2007. As stated in another thread, I predicted that Russell would go 10-0.

thanks for the prediction. :ylsuper: With a tougher non-conf schedule this year, 10-0 would be awesome.:thumb: As for the 6 two-ways, that number is slightly down from last years. I believe that we had at least 7 maybe 8 two-ways at times last year. (some other russell followers may be able to clarify this for me)

Devils will go as far as lines of scrimmage take them ..... Championship we had the skills couldn't consistently knock people off the ball. O line and D front seven are keys in tough games. Devils reload ... These kids have practiced or played in alot of games in last several years ..... These extra reps are priceless ...

Russell wil be fine....

:thumb: Simple and to the point, well said.

Glad to hear that Russell changed radio broadcast affiliations for the upcoming season. This year's games to be broadcast on WLGC 105.7. I'm betting this will be an improvement from the last few seasons.
