Setting it straight on LCA and Nicholas County

Featured Replies

Just to set the record straight, Lexington Christian and Nicholas County are not the only teams to sweep both the girls’ All “A” State Title and the Sweet 16 in the same season that has been reported by several TV stations and in the Lexington Herald Leader. Actually, Hazard won both the small school state title and the overall state title back in 1997. Hazard beat Lexington Catholic for the All “A” Title 53-45 and then knocked off Elizabethtown 54-38 to win the Sweet 16. The Lady Bulldogs were led by the one-two punch of Carolyn Alexander and Charlotte Sizemore during a season that saw them finish 37-1. :thumb:

Thanks for clearing it up but it had been determined on another thread already.

that is an awsome accomplishment for all three schools. Nothing better then high school sports IMO .

I know that in the 90's The boys team of University Heights out of Hopkinsville did it atleast once, and I think runner up the next year.

Great accomplishment!! I think we should name every tournament in every sport The Private School Classic...but that's an entirely different thread:-)

Yeah since so many private schools made it to the boys state tournament this year

Ok, let's just call it the "Private School All A Classic" and NO public schools even need to play in the regionals to qualify. Opps, wait a minute. I think the public schools have as much of a chance qualifying for the All A state tournament as other schools. I detect some jealousy on the part of a few who are crying about private schools again. Better go back to the records and check how many private schools have won the ALL A and how many private schools have won it. And while you are at it, why not check to see how many public vs private have qualified for the ALL A State. Then come back and cry about something else.

In NKY, I believe it is 2 publics that have won the regional crown since it began in the early 90's.

In the 10th, Brossart has won many, many regional titles on both sides since they joined the 10th.

Those are the only two regions I am familiar with.

Let's save some people some time here. Since 1993 when they started the 16-team state tournament, public schools have had 177 schools in the tournament and private schools have had 63. Public schools have won 10 of the 15 state all a tournaments and private schools have won 5. So, does it still appear as if the private schools have DOMINATED the tournament. Try to find some other angle to argue other than that it should be a private school state tournament because yours does not pan out when you look at the statistics. Try again.

Lets think about the percentage of public versus private schools. In the state of Kentucky probably 30 to 1, just a guess. With that being said your logic does not make sense!

I agree with your stats but isn't it all about who wins the ALL 'A'. I think this thread was started about how private schools have dominated it and regardless of your stats, public schools have won it more often. So, get off your high horse and just suck it up. Face it, private schools must be doing something right (and don't start the ole "recruiting" thread because most do NOT do that although I agree there are some, but don't bury your head in the sand and say that public schools don't recruit. Now that would be complete ignorous. Give it up for God's sake

Let me post this reminder:
