Hill of Holmes named 9th region POY...

Featured Replies

For the second straight year, Holmes' Austin Hill was names 9th region Player of the Year. Here's the article:

After the Holmes boys' basketball team won the 9th Region championship game last week, coach David Henley told the players to take a couple of days off before they started practicing for the state tournament.

The next day, however, Henley found senior guard Austin Hill in the gym working out by himself.

Hill's relentless drive to improve his skills was rewarded Sunday when he was named 9th Region Player of the Year at the Northern Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association awards banquet

Yes. Texas A&M, Winthrop, and Xavier have all offered but he doesn't want to make his decision until the end of the year. I know Western, UC, Purdue, and a couple other schools have also been recruiting him as well but those are his final three.

IMO he's going to end up at A&M just because it's a bigger name but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to X.

Congrats to Austin, he really deserves it.

But the 3 schools mentioned as his 3 options really surprise me. Last I heard he was probably headed to a major JUCO school. Is prep school an option? Does he have the grades to get into XU and Texas A&M. Very good schools. I hope this all true and he gets a chance to play in the future at them.

Austin's grades are fine. I think he'll end up at A & M but I wouldn't mind seeing him go to WInthrop. I think them and A &M play more of the offense he's accustomed to. I doubt very seriously he'll go to Xavier now that I'm thinking about it a little more.

No surprise here, congrats to a fine player.

Tell Austin to come on down to the Lone Star state and join another former Bulldog. I will be watching A&M this weekend they are in San Antonio this weekend. College Station is a very nice College town and he would do very well there. I dont know that much about Gillespie (A&M Head Coach) as he just got this team back on he map. How could Huggins not get this kid if he is going to play in the Big 12? I had the chance to talk to Austin this fall when I was home for a football game and he is a nice leveled head kid and I wish him well.

I hope this is all very true. But I have a hard time believing until I see him sign. If he goes to A&M or X it would be hard for him to get playing time right away. Winthrop wouldn't be a bad fit. I think his talent is definetly a better fit for a MAC or Mid Major school. These are places he could get 3 even 4 years of basketball experience.

He'd be a great fit for schools like, Miami OH, Marshall, Southern ILL, Dayton, or even a small BIG 10 school like Minnesota or Michigan. Doesn't Michigan already have some ties to Holmes? Englemann (sp)????

I think he could make it at A&M... maybe a redshirt year, or maybe not be able to play a lot right away, but a lot of freshmen don't play right away. If I had the option of going to a school and getting a lot of PT but competing for a spot in the dance or going and being a role player but playing for a national title... well, I know where I would be...

Good Luck Austin, wherever you choose...

This is why Austin hasn't made his decision yet. He wants to see if any other offers come in assuming he shines at the state tournament. A & M is the likely choice simply because of reputation but Winthrop would be a better fit IMO.

Austin will make a wise decision though. He will weigh all of his decisions and find out what's best for not only him, but also his family. I know Celeste Hill, his aunt, as well as his mother will both play huge roles in helping him decide where he ends up going.
