I am glad that Rose Hill played them. It was probably for the best that the Lady Royals played them in the finals. I think that it will help them in the first round at Diddle.

It has always been my belief that, in a tournament such as the state tournament, the team that gets over the "deer in the headlight" syndrome first will usually win the game unless one team is far, far superior to the other.

I knew that sooner or later the crying would start. The best team won and the two best teams played in the finals. This was noised about all year long, Russell and Rose Hill. The way Rose Hill had been playing, especially the last 3 games prior to Districts, it wouldnt have mattered what the Regional draw would have been. And for the record the players and coaches were hoping to draw Russell the first game of the Regional

 

In hindsight you may say this, but in reality I don't know ANY coach that would rather play a powerhouse (for lack of a better word) opponent in the first round of any tournament. If that wasn't the case, tournaments would not seed.

 

Again, I hope that RH fares well at Diddle (I will be routing for them) and its great to be excited, but it seems like some (not all of course) of the RH faithful are getting a little big for their britches. Bubba, you make it sound like you knew the 16th region tourney would be a cakewalk, even when many of your fellow RHers have admitted even their doubts for a return to Diddle.

I don't think the Lady Royals will have that problem(deer in the headlight syndrome). They have three starters returning and played four tough games last year so I think that they will be focused on the task at hand.

This may not be the place for it, but I figure my RH buddies will read this and it is for your eyes that I post it. Some of what has been said here along with posts from several other threads (as Patrick would say, "Who are these people?") have me to the point where I am just about ready to quote Bobby Knight's famous poem about what "my critics" can do when "they bury me upside down.":D I couldn't resist...and, as I've said before, I mean that in the kindest possible way.

You and many others threw this team under the bus, I and select few kept on believing in this team. I never said the regionals was a cake walk. But these girls, especially Emily, Laura, and Brit wanted to play the best, and it didnt matter to them when it happened, they just would have assumed it happened the first game. My post is not a slam to Russell or the other teams in the region by no means. But you and others have no idea what this team has went through this year. It amazes me that everyone counted them out and they are the State Runner ups from last year. You should keep your hands off the keyboard when referring to me unless you know me and what has happened at RH. Do you attend their practices or games, spend time with the players or coaches, or do you just get on BGP's run people down. The last two years have been poetic justice in more ways than just one.

Once again I want to state that my posts are not a slam to Russell and Coach Kidwell, I respect their program very much and they had great talent this past year. That game could have went Russell's way and if it did then so be it. I hate for my team to lose but if they did I would root and cheer for whoever would have been representing the region. Great players want to play the best, doesnt matter when. As it worked out, it happen to be that they met in the end but if they would have met the first game RH girls still would have played with their heart. Many act like RH girls shouldnt have won the game, both teams played hard and for one night RH was the better team. I think to many read too much into something that is not even posted, I am sure next year RH wont win the regionals, so when that happens I will be right back on here rooting and cheering for whoever is going to state.

Rose Hill could have went out this year and played Sister Christian of the Blind University 10 different times and had a better record then what they did but they chose not to...why? Great players want to play better teams. Give it a rest.

Whoaaa...Big Bubba, calm down a little bit. I never "threw your team" under a bus. As a matter of fact I have enjoyed watching RH (and especially their young ones) improve this season. If you look over my posts this season, I have NEVER criticized A RH player or coach. I may have disagreed with an RH fan or, for that matter, another 16th region's team's fan but usually it was to refute something said about another team - something that this forum was designed for.

 

Now my next comment is in no way directed at RH players and their coaching staff. It amazes me to believe that some fans feel their teams are the only ones to go through hard times during the season - usually situations that are never made public. This is the nature of team sports. The good teams fight through these tough times and still win. I congratulate RH for doing just this. Overcoming problems that occurred over the season should make RH's regional win even more staisfying. But make no mistake, other teams have also dealt with adversity this season. Many teams in the 16th region would love to have 2 viable Miss Basketball candidates on their team, regardless of the behind the scenes drama. this being said, Rose Hill has my support as they travel to Diddle.

Big Bubba, I already responded to your privious post before seeing this one. I may very well have misinterpreted you post and for that I am sorry. That is the only problem with writing comments - it leaves a lot open to interpretation. Probably my biggest problem being a poster on BGP is when I interpret a post that I feel may not be giving other teams in the region credit. All the 16th region girls give their hearts and souls to the game and sometimes a post just hits me the wrong way.

I hate to see this thread head down a bad direction after such a great game in the finals. All of the RH people I heard before and after the game were very respectful of Russell and how good of a team they are. Heck, ask the players what they think of Russell's girls. Some of the best they've played against, ever.

And there is no easy draw or games in the regional. You think Ashland was a good draw in the semis? I bet West Carter wouldn't say that. And East Carter kept their game close to the end with Rose Hill. You can't overlook anyone and I hate to see some of the girl's efforts discredited because you don't make the regional without being good. Period.

I knew going into the final that it would be a titanic struggle between two great teams. Either one would represent the 16th Region in fine fashion. And the girls from Rose Hill will indeed do this.

But congrats to Russell too, one of the best teams in the state. And congrats to Ashland, Rowan, and all the rest who made the tourney great by giving all that they had in each game.

Now Rose Hill won this title and deservedly so, and we all need to root for them to do well this week.

Looks like our posts are just missing each other in cyberspace. I think we are actually saying the same thing. The RH girls played great in the regional, they beat the best, and they deserve a ticket to Diddle. As I said before, I will be rooting for them.

IMO, I think the 16th region for girls hoops has been nothing short of awesome for the last 10 years or so. Bluegrass Will you are right, it looked like titans clashing underneath the basket. IMO it was one of the better regional finals I have seen for years. Its like when UK and UL played earlier this year, UL didnt hit any threes and UK won, not comparing Russell and Rose Hill to UK and UL just stating that sometimes the shots fall and sometimes they dont. Both teams were well coached, well prepared and played hard. Thats all you can ask for. It was great no matter what the outcome was or would have been.
