March 5, 200719 yr I say somebody has had a nervous breakdown and is "freaking out maaaan!" But of course, in a way, he's right... in "the war on terror" there is no way to win, so naturally, a loss is the only outcome. There may not always be a United States of America. But there will ALWAYS be terrorists looking to take down the biggest power, no matter who it is. But still, I can't buy what this guy is selling. His explaination is that nobody is willing to fight for freedom anymore. Then what's the man doing himself? He's either not giving himself or his fellow soldiers any credit in which they deserve, or he's trying to guilt absolutely everyone to pick up a gun and ship out to the middle east. That sounds like a great plan, let's just totally camo up and ship out the American population so that there's nobody left at home to be fighting for in the first place.

I think he's saying if we pull out, we lose, JMO. I agree with him, we will have more terrorism in this country. And if we pull out now it's going to happen sooner and more frequent than we may want to admit.
March 6, 200719 yr He is not talking about him and his fellow soldiers. Hes talking about Americans as a whole. I started reading this and i had to make sure i wasn't the one who wrote it. The very reason i volunteered is so that my son would not have to fight. I fight so people like my grandmother who is no longer able to fight will have someone to protect her. Alot of you have actually recieved PM's from me. I get very frustated with how Americans think today. After i got back from my first deployments i read alot of statements that said "i would if i didn't". Following that statement would usually be if i wasn't in college, if i didn't have my career, or if I had to. These statements would drive me nuts. It was as if citizens thought they had more going on in their lives than the men and women who do volunteer for this war. The "ifs" are there in the soldiers lives too. They just make sacrifices. I myself just came to the conclusion that most don't understand. And that it takes a special person to make these sacrifices. Alot of people want to agrue about the reasons. Well as soldiers we do the same. Its what america is. We have the freedom to form our own opinions. But there are still americans dying in Iraq and i will try my best to make sure as many make it home as possible. I won't do that from here, but from their side.
March 6, 200719 yr Cats Eye I agree with you completely. One of the problems in America today is: people have a feeling of entitlement. Like this man said people want to demand their rights as Americans, but do not want to sacrifice what is required to claim those rights. During WWII the whole country sacrificed to achieve what was required to retain freedom. During Vietnam people like Hanoi Jain slapped the rights of Americans in the face. There is nothing better for an enemy than to have people from the opposing side cross over to their side, this helps in the divide and concur philosophy. And now people are repeating the same mistake. Apparently people are under the delusion that people can not invade and capture the USA. That belief will allow it to happen.
March 6, 200719 yr You guys worry too much. I remember "If we lose Viet Nam, the commies will take over like the Domono Therory, one country at a time. " Never happened, did it?
March 6, 200719 yr We lost this war, and someday we'll pay price. What say you? If this guy was writing about the war in Afghanistan, I might agree with him. Unfortunately, he is writing about Iraq, which was completely irrelevant to international terrorism until we made it relevant by invading. So I'm left with two thoughts: 1) He doesn't know squat about the pre-invasion history and 2) If he is so concerned about being overrun by terrorists here on our home soil, why is he not livid that we invaded with a force that was grossly inadequate to secure the country and stamp out the insurgency?

March 6, 200719 yr I don't believe you've fully digested what he's said. I understand what he said. But he seems to be ignorant of the fact that we had our opportunity to break the enemy in Afghanistan. Because that war received short shrift by our "leaders", the real enemy is regaining strength. Because we allowed ourselves to get distracted in Iraq, the real enemy is gaining followers. Because we refuse to seriously deal with our petroleum dependency, the real enemy is being financed out of our own wallets.

While it seems now that Iraq was not the terrorists haven before the war, I do believe that it is now the terrorists haven and they have made that the front line against America. The real enemy in this world is in Iraq. The real, real enemy though is for another thread.:sssh:
March 6, 200719 yr Umm....You do realize they've already attacked, don't you? Yep....Fool us once......
March 6, 200719 yr Disagree. The real enemy in this world is in Iraq. The real, real enemy though is for another thread.:sssh: I agree completely. People are stuck in the mindset that we are at war with a country. We are not, we are at war with terrorists. Al Quida is not in allegiance with one particular country, they are like a country with no realastate. This is not like other wars were it's country(s) versus Country(s). This is definitely not like Vietnam, this group has already attacked us on our own soil, and will do it again if we stop the pursuit. The attack on September 11, 2001 was planned for years just to hit hard, to attack our prosperity and financial success. If we give them time they will plan a bigger attack to show they are still in command. This is not a country who is afraid of us attacking their country, because they have no country they are nomads roaming from place to place if we attack the county they are in, they simply cross a border to another country, we have to give pursuit and let them know we have a unstoppable resolve.

And yet, even your assumption that some of us are under the impression that we're at war with a country is incorrect. As well, your statement that we're at war with terrorists is an incomplete explanation. We are in an ideological war. Killing the terrorists in no way removes or repairs the ideological differences.
March 6, 200719 yr How fierce we are has a global impact. If we are seen as, willing to let bygones be bygones other countries will prey on our weakness. This is why North Korea is testing us. They see that the American people are split on the USA fighting wars, they are counting on the American people not allowing the USA to wage war, especially during or immediately after the war in the middle east. This is not just North Korea, if we back down in the middle east other dictators will pop up with their control issues, and before you know it one will say "I think if we come together we can overthrow the American Government". The main reason that these dictator ran countries contain themselves, is they know that the USA has the resources and military might to stop them in their tracks. If they become aware that we are not willing to use our resources and military might, it won't be long before someone is willing to test us.
