Dayton Coaching Search...

No matter who Dayton hires the key might be to have some patience. Losing Hightchew will be a major blow to the offense, the defense, and even the special teams. A player like that is really significant at that level. I expect Dayton this year to be right in the mix as always with Bellevue and Ludlow for what will now be the runner-up in the district. Just have some patience if they finish behind those two.

I can see that losing hightchew would effect the offence and special teams but dont know about the defence. I see alot of starters both ways returning for Dayton but Bellevue lost Justin Ross and Adam Tagg both starting running backs and leading scorers. Justin also had the the tackling record for the tigers, so i see them struggling the most. The Panthers are also returning many of their starters and should have a smooth transition keeping on the improving track into next season.

See that is the great thing that Lickert did, develop. There was a kid behind Hightchew that stepped in a few times throughout the season when Hightchew got winded or the game got in hand and did very well... off hand I remember he threw a touchdown to the tall wide receiver in the Lloyd game and I think I remember a tv highlight of a rushing TD by the kid early in the year. Seems like a Solid guy in line to take over at QB... the name seems to escape me right now for some reason... seems like he might have played some D too.

I don't know about the special teams...

Bellevue's rushing attack will probably lose a lot of steam with the top 4 RB's being seniors, but Babb showed real promise towards the end of the year... now they need to find some targets for him.

If Ludlow can get their line in line, their O could be somewhat dynamic with Rouse and Lunsford doing so well togther at the end of the year... that young Mills kid, and a transfer I hear.

Brian Ellis...Dayton will be fine with the loss of Hightchew because of him...

Ellis did play D too. I think defensive end mostly but i remember seeing him in a couple diff. positions all year.

Do you think Hightchew's shoes will be to much for him to fill. Will he meet the expectations that Hightchew set last season?

Brian is a leader, he is a fierce competitor and he is a winner. He just needs to play within himself and the team. He will make great decisions throwing the ball and will continue to excel because of his work ethic. Chris is a very talented football player, but there will not be a dropoff at the QB position!

Back to the coaching search. What about Mike Woolf? He needs head coaching experience and he is a guy who probably is a great motivator, enthusiastic and stresses defense which the Greendevils will need to emphasize with so many offensive weapons graduating.

So far i have only heard of two people applying for the job, Zach Deaton and Nick Rice???? What do you think about the two??????

Nick Rice, is he a teacher? I know he was a solid player at Newport and Thomas More.

Ya he is a teacher at Dayton Elementry.... he used to coach at Dayton, but left for a job coaching Thomas More. He left there and now doesnt coach at all.

He had to begin to work on his masters degree. Trust me when I say this, Nick Rice will put his masters aside in order to maintain the current success that Dayton has had.

Teacher: Yes

Newport: All State Recognition at LB

Thomas More: All American

Remember patience.

Hightchew

11 TDs 15 kicked PATs

130 rushes for 786 6.0 per rush (78 per game)

76 for 136 for 740 yards passing (74 per game)

28 punts for 35.0 average

3 Interceptions (Led team)

Dayton averaged 275 yards of offense per game.

That is a lot for any coach to replace.
