Russell hasn't won anything yet so I wouldnt get ahead of myself on that prediction because Ashland or Elliot might have something to say about that.

Would you expect them to want Raceland to make all four of those free throws. I don't see the harm in that remark. Must never listen to Dicky cheer for his team.

 

The radio crew is not the best by any means but they are not evil either. Do they really need to be villainized. I am sure they wish no harm on any kid. I think it is time to take a deep breath.

Russell did very well to beat Raceland tonight after losing their top player for

at least the game and at most the rest of the season. Raceland was very

scrappy and as usual did not quit until the final buzzer. If Russell has a shot

to win the 16th Region without VanHoose, however, it will be because of the

play of Jacob Ferguson and the Red Devil defense. Russell still has some of

the most talent in the 16th even if VanHoose is gone. I do realize that it is

very hard if not near impossible to replace the center-piece of the offense in

one week, however. Still, I would not count Russell out completely. They still

have a huge amount of senior leadership and a coach that is smarter and

better than most people give credit. All that being said, it will be very, VERY

difficult if VanHoose is in fact gone.

 

I do want to remind everybody that these are preliminary reports. Nothing is

in stone at this point. It is interesting to note, I believe that VanHoose was

not wearing his usual knee brace. One wonders if this had any effect, but one

will likely never know the answer to the question. Nonetheless, the importance

right now is on the well-being of all the players in the game and not the causes.

Congrats again to the Red Devils on advancing to the finals of the district and to the 16th region. The better team won tonight.

 

Again, Raceland kids - you have nothing at all to hang your heads about. The Ramblers played "Ram Tough" and did not quit. :thumb:

I was at this game and it was a battle. Raceland is tough and their kids don't quit, Period! The game was 4-2 after the 1st period and Vanhoose went on to score 10 of Russell's first 12 before going down. Prayers for Jon. Boyles injury occured after hitting Gill who took the charge but Boyles landed wrong. Russell showed a lot of poise when Vanhoose went down. Robinson & Blair had 12 each and Vanhoose 10. Gill had 10 rebounds or so and an awesome dunk in traffic while playing about half the game, his first day back after about 3 weeks off. Ferguson had his 3 or 4th solid game in a row. Russell shot 70% from the foul line to ice this game. Vanhoose is the best player in the region and I don't even want to think about playing without him, but anyone who thinks this team can't win it without him or any one player, either doesn't know Russell or doesn't know basketball

:thumb: I agree on all points and especially the very first line . Also imo Coach Dodd is as good as there is in the 16th. Russell is VERY well coached.

Big win and a big loss. This is a very deep team. It is nice to have Gill back. Russell still has plenty of athleticism even if VanHoose is out. But they will have to win ugly if they want to repeat as regional champions.

 

I agree with Red Shift. Jacob Ferguson has the talent. He will need to come out of his shell and really step up.

Boyles injury was NOT to his knee. He hit his head on the court and was woozy from that. He did not show signs of improvement on the sideline and his parents took him to SOMC as a precaution.

 

Vanhoose will see an orthopedist tomorrow and should have a better idea on his status then. Any discussion before then would be preliminary.

How can anyone call an injury to any kid "a good thing" even if they were talking about how it would effect Raceland's stategy and game plan. Do you think that sonds right/ If it was reversed would you think that it sounded o/k. ? That is all I am saying, ther "hope he misses" on th foul shots didn't bother me. The almost celebrating an injury to a kid definately did! They didn't say Vanhooses injury was "good" for Raceland. Where and what is the difference? At least I don't have to listen to them anymore this season. Other stations will be carrying the rest of the tournaments.

I never called it "villinized" Sorry couldn't resist. While I didn't hear the comment and by what you are saying it doesn't sound right. The injury probably did help Russell and the injury to VanHoose did help Raceland, It is something that I agree you do not say. Or at least you be careful how you say it. I'm sure in the emotion of the game it came across in a way that was not intended. Like I said. This guys are not evil or sadistic. Maybe they just don't think before they speak. NO, WE WOULD NOT EXPECT THEM TO WANT ANYTHING FOR RACELAND, BUT WOULD EXPECT THEM TO ACT LIKE ADULTS INSTEAD OF 15 YEAR OLDS. AND IT'S NOT LIKE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE MADE ANY COMPLETELY UNCALLED-FOR REMARKS ABOUT OPPOSING TEAMS AND/OR PLAYERS. THEY ARE THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL RADIO ANNOUNCERS THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD....AND THEY HAVEN'T MATURED ANY IN THE 20+ YEARS THAT THEY HAVE BEEN ON THE AIR....SPORTS OR OTHERWISE. AND AS FOR DICKY CHEERING FOR HIS TEAM, HIS LOYALTY FOLLOWS THE PAYCHECK.....HE'S CHEERED FOR ALOT OF "HIS" TEAMS OVER THE YEARS.
