There's a HUGE difference in what SHOULD be an issue and what is....if I had to vote TODAY....I would vote for Barack in every situation, unless Rudi was running.

I am still not convinced that AMERICANS are ready for an AFRICAN-AMERICAN President. Skin color shouldn't be an issue, but , unfortunately, it still is. I certainly would support a black candidate(as long as he was a donkey, not an elephant), but I just don't know if America is ready to elect a black President(or for that matter, a female President). I hope I am wrong.

If anyone is listening to what Obama is saying, they have to at least consider him seriously. I like his take on the whole issue of race...which is that it's a non-issue. His comment was that if he were to lose the race, it wouldn't be because he was black, but that he'd failed to convice the American public that his ideas were the right ideas for America.

Race will be a non-issue. For every vote O'bama gets because of his race, he will lose one as well.

That's not what the news indicated. In fact, their polls are finding that a majority of black voters would not vote for ANY African American presidential candidate. It's only partly an Obama problem. The bigger issue is much of the black community's lack of confidence in candidates of their own race. In other words, race is a bigger issue for black voters than it is for white voters. I'm still unable to come to grips with this. But you are correct about them favoring Hillary.

 

And I beleive this is so, because there hasn't been a true leader in the Black Community(at least on a wide scale) since Martin Luther King Jr. Some (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton) have been portrayed as such, but none have fit the bill. Jesse Jackson had the potential to be, but he screwed it up.

I think it's both interesting and sad that you can unchain the slave (anyone who has been made to feel inferior), but neither they nor their children will move away from the post they were chained to. How do you build self-confidence within a community?

I don't know what his stance is because I don't care. It is a non-issue for me, so it doesn't matter his stance. I long for the time that we can run candidates on beliefs and stances on issues.

 

I do think that certain groups make more of race than the majority of whites do. 99% of the people in my daily world, race is a non-issue.

I don't think it's a matter of the white male brainwashing anyone, but in the reality of the fact that women are savvy enough not to vote for a woman simply because she's a woman. If that woman or any other minority candidate can't present their views better than the white male, who doesn't do a very good job either.

 

Face it. It really is a white male's world. They make more money than their minority counterparts with equal experience, and they can still pull in the funding for their campaigns politically.

 

In KY, if Ann wins the Republican bid for the governor's race, I think it will have less to do with her being a woman, as it does 2 things:

But it seems that President is a whole different animal. We're okay with minority governors, senators, mayors, etc. Yet when it comes to electing the big guy, we seem to want it to be the big white guy.
