Umm, I believe Whitaker ahs done a good job, but they were expected to be good ... I guess I would rank him a tie with Wright. To be honest, the reason I didn't rank Cumberland's coach is because they've struggeled lately, played a weak schedule and, it seems like the assistant really doesn most of the coaching ... I could be wrong, though.

North started out the season with one player with any significant varsity time. After three weeks, that team of inexperienced youngsters nearly dealt upsets to a pair of top-20 teams. Then, just as NL was playing their best ball, four players were suspended from the team. Two of them were starters — the team's only seniors — and they were kicked off the team permanently by the school board. Sent in a tailspin, the Jags recovered to win three of the last four games. Then, in the district, they turned the tables on a team that beat them earlier in the season when they had a full complement of players.

 

For North to have won five games this years is probably miraculous given all the adversity, let alone 11 and be on the cusp of possibly winning their district. Conway gets my vote.

The real coach from Cumberland Derrick Akal should be COY in the 13th hands down, last year winning only about 5 games to 18 or better with the same kids. "Please, no contest". Plus an all A Regional championship.

Cumberland actually won 9 games last year and had a good chance to win several other games, (tied or ahead in several games after 3 quarters) The depth issue issue a big concern without a doubt.

Why Pietrowski at #2? Cobin's schedule is weak too isn't it? Does Corbin have a signature win this season? I don't see Corbin or Pietrowski as over-achievers this year...Honestly Les...Do you?

I dont think anyone with an 11-16 record anywhere has ever won a coach of the year award. They actually only lost one player that gave them considerable stats (Asher) and they do still have their 2 best players in Shannon and

Seidel and they clearly put a more athletic, defensive team on the floor now, so I dont get your case for coach of the year at all, but he has done a good job.

When is Eddie Whitaker ever going to get his due?? He has done a good job for several years and has arguably the best team in the 13th Region this year. Tony P has done a great job at corbin also getting Corbin's young players to play at such a high level already. Steve Wright is an excellent coach, but with 3 key players from a State Championship team still playing he has not done a bad job, but I dont think should be considered for coach of the year.

You may be right, but with the young team Corbin puts on the floor ...Coach P has done a terrific job! Hopefully, the tournament will prove that Coach P deserves the award! :banana:

Coach Pietrowski, hands down. Corbin is young as can be and they are going to give South and anybody else all they want in the post-season.

I am assuming you, just like your pal Les are from the London/Corbin area. I also stand by my statement. They were actually headed nowhere with the team they had in place before THE INCIDENT, then afterwards Shannon and Seidel took over the team and they are probably better without the bunch they lost mainly due to the play of these 2 guys.
