Rumor has it that high technology has finally reached the mountains in the 14th Reg. basketball officials association . According to one official who will remain nameless a veteran 14th region basketball refree was seen answering his cell phone recently while on the floor officiating an actual game . Reports are floating across the region from his fellow officials that he may have been consulting with one of his astute supervisors on how to handle a certain situation . My response , they say if you live long enough you'll see it all folks . Sure wish i could have witnessed that.

I was not at the game but heard this discussed in Wendys in Jackson the next day during lunch . I overheard the official stopped the game to answer his cell phone. I have 2 questions with this.

1)Why have you cell phone on you.

2)Who in the world would you stop the game for, to talk to.

Maybe it was his stock guy?

No one should have their cell on the court or on the field of play in any sport. A few years ago, I was at a baseball tournament (LL) and a coach had his cell on his side and even talked while one of his players was running to 1st. :irked: There's going to have to be a rule set in place.

Okay I have heard the "Rest of the story" as a great story teller would say.

Here is what happened: A certain official, who shall remain nameless because he is a county clerk in Owsley county, was dressing in the locker room and neither of his partners had shown up yet so he was getting nervous. Imagine that, him getting nervous, would never believe it. He called his assignor to find out what was going on and why no one else was there, but unknown to him the other 2 officials were in another dressing room. About the time the game was supposed to start, he decided to go out and see what he was going to do and was still waiting for a call back from the assignor. When he got out to the court he seen the other 2 officials getting ready to throw it up without him, so he ran out to join them and forgot about his phone being in his pocket. So when the assignor returned his call, I guess he thought he needed to tell him that everything was okay and the other officials were there. I don't agree with having phones on the floor and I'm sure it wasn't on purpose, but I probably would have waited for a timeout and called him and told him everything was okay. It is a funny story and everyone needed to hear what really happened.

I wish he would of had his phone on during the Leslie vs. Perry game so everyone could of called him and told him that the basket at the buzzer to force overtime was good by a second and a half. The game should of went to overtime and he could avoided a whole lot of headaches.

So now you know, "The rest of the story". Everyone have a great weekend, Districts are 2 days away. Tournament time!

By a second and a half ? I don't know if any official could get one wrong that bad. Is that an exaggeration?

Nope, the ball left the Perry kid's hands, went up and was at the rim getting ready to go in when the horn went off. He said he didn't hear the horn. Ha, give me a break, have you seen the fans in the 14th, they haven't cheered that loud in years. Have you heard Leslie county's horn, it will hurt your ears. It was just gutless if you ask me.

Come on, give the guy a break. He is first class all the way. I can't say whether call was good or bad as I wasn't there, but I know the gentleman, and he is not "gutless". I will vouch for his truthfulness. If he said he didn't hear the horn, he didn't hear it.

:thumb: I have known the man a long time. He is a class act and a gentleman. Whether the call was right or wrong I dont know. What I do know is that downgrading the man will not change the call.:madman:

I am a Leslie fan and that shot should have counted. Don't know about a second and a half hahaha but yeah, the shot should have counted.

The guy said he didn't hear the horn ? Is he serious ? How can someone not hear a basketball horn ? Please tell me. Please.
