What is the best public course in the state of Kentucky? Give a top 5 or whatever you may want to give. I will give mine a little later.

Nobody likes public courses around here?

Of the courses I've played...

 

1.) Old Silo in Mt. Sterling - Tough but great views. I spent too much time in the sand

 

2.) Mineral Mound in Lyon County - New course that plays alongside Lake Barkley. Great views and a long course

 

3.) Gibson Bay in Richmond - I haven't played in almost a decade but I hear the course is going downhill. Was a nice course when I played.

 

4.) Kearney Hill in Lexington - Also been a while since I've played here. Understand heavy tournament play wore the course down in recent years.

 

5.) Kentucky Dam Village in Gilbertsville - Winds through a bunch of trees but not overly tough.

 

Three courses I haven't played but have on the to-do list is Wasioto Winds, Lassing Pointe, and Eagle Ridge in Louisa.

My Favorites:

1) Eagle Ridge in Louisa--Challenging course, beautiful scenery

2) Hidden Cove in Grayson--Extremely challenging course, well manicured

3) Marriott's Griffin Gate in Lexington--Tough course but fun

4) Diamond Links in Catlettsburg--Rugged course, saw lots of wildlife(turkeys, deer, squirrels, rabbits)

Lassing Point in Union, has to be mentioned here.

Houston Oaks, Gibson Bay, Lassing Pointe, and Fox Run are the best I've played. I like Hickory Sticks a lot and the Bull (outside of Lexington) is very good as well. I would like to play Old Silo.

Anyone here heard of Shaker Run in OHio?

 

Shaker Run is one of the top public courses in the Country. It is in Lebanon Ohio and is absolutely beautiful.

The one that I can afford.

 

 

There is one about 15 minutes across the Ohio River from Augusta. Take the ferry across at Augusta for the best route to get there.

It is called the pines and it is $20 for green fees and cart. For as many holes as you want to play. Most for me in a day was 54 holes. Played 36, they let you leave your clubs, etc on the cart go into town grab some lunch and return for a final 18.

 

Had a friend who went and played 73 holes before they succumbed to darkness.

 

Great location to have a BGP golf outing. Meet there around 8:00 AM and play to 8:00 PM that night. Get in about 54 holes in a day. I got good and loose and played well from about hole 38 to 48.

Anyone here heard of Shaker Run in OHio?

 

I played there last year, it is the best public cousre I have played.
