Very interesting outcome and score. I figured it could be close and that CHC would win, congratulations to Eminence. I don't like comparing scores and I know it was earlier on, but what does this say about Paintsville beating Eminence the way they did? Regardless, nice win for Eminence.

EMINENCE PULLS AWAY LATE TO DEFEAT HOLY CROSS 34-14

Eminence, KY - What began as a highly anticipated matchup on September 25th quickly turned into a showcase of Eminence's explosive playmakers, as the Warriors used a dominant rushing attack and two momentum-swinging defensive plays to defeat the Covington Holy Cross Indians 34-14.

A FIRST HALF CONTROLLED BY EMINENCE'S GROUND GAME

Eminence set the tone immediately. On their opening possession, Jermaine Harmon Jr. ripped off runs of 14, 15, and 17 yards - the last of which capped a nine-play, 84-yard touchdown drive.

Holy Cross struggled early to match that physicality. Their first drive produced a couple of solid runs from Charles Oglesby, but stalled at midfield before a punt. A promising second drive reached the Eminence 24, only to end abruptly when Xavier Thornberry fumbled after a short reception - a turnover that became one of the game's defining plays.

Harmon scooped up the loose ball and sprinted 66 yards the other way, flipping the field and burying Holy Cross in a deeper hole.

Eminence capitalized on the short field moments later, extending the lead to 14-0.

HOLY CROSS FINDS LIFE IN THE THIRD QUARTER

Down 21-0 at halftime, Holy Cross needed a spark - and quarterback Brian Ferguson delivered it. On the first possession of the third quarter, he hit Max Hunt for a 30-yard touchdown strike. The Indians followed with a strong defensive stand, then marched again, with Ferguson keeping the ball for an 18-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 21-14.

For a brief stretch, Holy Cross seized momentum. Their defense forced punts, and the offense looked balanced, with Hunt and Thornberry combining for 118 receiving yards and Ferguson finishing with 118 passing and 42 rushing. But the comeback effort stalled after a pair of empty possessions and a costly fumble deep in their own territory.

EMINENCE CLOSES THE DOOR WITH POWER AND SPEED

The Warriors responded with the same formula that carried them early: downhill running and misdirection. Harmon broke free again, this time for a 33-yard touchdown, pushing the lead back to two scores. Moments later, Raiden Steed added an 18-yard touchdown run - his second of the night - to seal the game at 34-14.

The stat sheet tells the story of Eminence's dominance:

• 268 rushing yards on 38 carries (7.1 yards per attempt)

• Harmon: 146 yards, 2 rushing TDs, plus the 66-yard fumble return

• Steed: 80 yards, 2 TDs

• Holy Cross held to 83 rushing yards and 154 passing yards, with two turnovers

Holy Cross's defense battled, but the Warriors' efficiency on third down (6-of-10) and ability to generate chunk plays proved too much.

HOLY CROSS INDIVIDUAL STANDOUTS

Despite the loss, several Indians delivered strong performances:

• Brian Ferguson: 8-of-19 passing for 154 yards, 1 TD; 42 rushing yards and a TD

• Max Hunt: 2 receptions, 58 yards, 1 TD

• Xavier Thornberry: 5 receptions, 60 yards

But turnovers - two fumbles, including the decisive first-half return - and difficulty sustaining drives ultimately kept Holy Cross from staying within reach.

THE VERDICT

Eminence earned this win with physicality, discipline, and explosive playmaking. Holy Cross showed resilience in the third quarter, but the Warriors' ability to control the line of scrimmage and capitalize on mistakes proved decisive.

The Indians fall to 4-1, while Eminence continues to build momentum behind one of the region's most dynamic rushing duos. If Holy Cross cleans up turnovers and continues to develop its passing rhythm, they remain a dangerous team - but Friday night belonged to the Warriors.
