The battle of the birds is up next for the two teams in Georgetown.

Great Crossing comes in 0-1 with a 41-14 loss to GRC. This game was close for 3 quarters, but the cardinals were able to break away late.

Scott County comes in 1-0 with a lashing of Franklin County 55-24. That one was close for 15 minutes of game time before Scott County began to pull away and never looked back.

Great Crossing has some good players in the trenches but elsewhere throughout nearly the entire team there are glaring holes. From what I’ve seen, not much of anything has improved since last season and they lost a monster in Luke Ballard on top of that.

The one silver lining for the warhawks to latch onto is that they know the playbook of Scott County better than anyone. One of the most frustrating things when playing them is SC can’t operate as usual because they know what phrases mean that other teams don’t. That doesn’t stop McKee from loudly saying them anyway, but definitely an extra factor in the game.

On the Scott County side the player to watch is going to be Timmy Emongo. 5 total touchdowns vs Franklin, nearly 300 all purpose yards on only 10 touches. I’m not sure there’s a team who could contain him in the state. He’ll probably be the must watch player all season.

Scott County as a team looks improved defensively this year. They committed a lot of penalties vs Franklin, and let up 14 points off of breaks in coverage. I’d much rather have that in game 1 than it be a skill issue. Have to clean that up fast though!

The cards offense went 8/8 scoring a touchdown on every drive. I don’t expect them to struggle to match that or do better Friday night.

Thoughts?

Anyone thinking of making the drive to watch this one should arrive about 2 hours before kickoff (5:30). The SC parking lot is not big enough and anyone arriving much later will have to be transported to the game from the old high school via bus.

I think you meant to say Great Crossing thinks they know the Scott County plays. Playbook is a non factor. They will lose the ball and cut guys wide open. Runner by half if not 1st quarter. Great Crossing QB out with a concussion.

The Great Crossing coaches remind me of the guy in the stands that says “Watch the run! Watch the pass!”

Oh absolutely. This season it will be a non factor what they do and don’t know pre snap it’ll get ugly. Should give the JV guys some much needed playing time. They need it!

If the red team isn't up 50 by halftime, it will actually count as a loss for them lol.

Running clock in the first half. I watched the first half of the Great Crossing and GRC game I'm serious most of the kids for the Warhawks look a freshman or JV team. I would guess a lot of 9th and 10th graders.

I noticed their LBs in particular looked lost on fairly simple plays. They don’t have a chance Friday. SC starters may not run more than 20 plays offensively.

Parking info for battle of the birds Friday night for anyone who may attend. Gates open at 6 PM with a tailgate starting at 5 PM.

Like I said, I’d recommend getting there 2+ hours before kickoff if you expect any level of parking. There is only about 800 spots available not including reserved ones!

Anyone who can’t get there before 5:30 head over to Great Crossing High School for a free shuttle ride over to Cardinal Stadium.

Limited touches only because he scored on half of them lol. We had the ball 8 times, he touched it 10 times and took 5 to the house. Kid is a beast.

It's a rivalry so anything can happen.

Like Timmy might get 1000 all purpose yards if they've really ticked him off like I've heard they have.
