Kingston Dillard. He was #5 last year I believe. I’m obviously biased but I’ve been saying since last year that he’s a top 3 receiver in the state.

I'm impressed.

I listen to them a lot, they give credit where credit is due but yes they definitely think highly of Owensboro and how Mayfield matched up against them.

Doubtful that the Cardinals will hang around though I’m interested to how this one plays out Friday. Two of the better teams in WKY, should be a good one! Football is back!

  • As stated in another thread, Red Helmet Sports will be streaming this game live.

It felt as if their announcers are lowkey fans of the Devils. I’ve never heard them talk good about other teams like they did the Devils tonight.

Oboro scored again but I don't think it was 1s on 1s but I am not sure.

Anyone?

As far as I know the varsity ended 14-7 Owensboro but I didn't pay full attention to the second half.

14-7 varsity yes

Both teams look pretty solid on defense and both teams need some fine tuning of the offense. Mayfield’s will be a 2A contender that’s forsure

Owensboro will be really tough out in 5A again this year. We were impressed with the defense at every position. As for Mayfield, there are plenty of things to improve upon, but there is alot to be excited about.

If you can hold Owensboro offense to 7, I know we got a pick 6, but that's good for Mayfield's defense.

Varsity offense scored twice and varsity only played 2 quarters - Dillard and Green. There were 2 pick 6’s one was in JV I don’t remember the other. O dove to about the 10 three times no points. G’way missed alot down in close but some of that was due to mayfield. Red Devil line play was very good IMO for the first time out.

I was there. I’m worried about the line play on the goaline. We couldn’t protect or Ganaway Jr was just trying to create. Need to get Green the ball in that part of the woods.

There’s a lot of positives, but we have some areas we need to figure out.

O’s line looked good to me too. Lots of size and strength. Didn’t seem like the Devils were worried about scoring as much as they were wanting to try different looks and personnel. Walker averaged 20 plus yards a carry. Would have to think in a real game situation the Devils just keep running him in the red zone. Devils moved the ball with relative ease between the 20’s. As far as the pass goes GJ looked rusty but hats off to Mayfield they defended the pass much better than I thought they would. For the other teams in the O’s district who thought the Devils would be down because of the Oline. Well, they’re even bigger and better this year(still young) and Walker will have a Hampton type career at RB. Kid is a beast.

QB had time to throw. And GJ a mobile QB so a touch type scrimmage limits him. What are some areas we need to figure out?

You must have went for a hotdog for about 30 minutes then. We scored twice. G’way had some misses and yes we could have just plowed it in a time or 2 but working on passing game.

O had ball on 10 yard line 3 times no score. 14-7 varsity. Ganaway did not look sharp missed several TDs. O defense looked really good, Ashley didn’t play every series and no pullom and no shemwell. Mayfield has to feel good about competing. As I previously stated O needs speed in backfield. Green is more thunder but Walker looked unstoppable even as a freshman. He has got to be the lead back. Maybe Kindle will get a chance too. Nose guard is a man. O great defense and good first scrimmage. Can’t wait to see us vs South Warren but Walker will need more reps as the lead back.

Number 22 looks like he could use some more carries, powerful and explosive.

Walker is a Freshman - was an under armour AA as 8th grader as was the huge right tackle James who goes 6-3 265. Walker looks a lot like Hampton as a freshman or sophomore.

Ganaway timing was way off on his throws.
