KHSAA Board of Control meeting set for tomorrow. Among the agenda items, first draft of football alignment for 2027-28 seasons will be released. Reminder that KHSAA is now realigning football every two years instead of every four years.

I think it's funny that they don't seem to release the enrollment reports ahead of time now.  I think they realized that some smart cookies like many we have here could figure it out ahead of time.

5.2.1. Placement of Grace James Academy, 2026-2027

I had to google Grace James Academy. I didn't realize JCPS had started a STEAM academy...looks like it's an all-girls school. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) schools push for providing students with more career opportunities via co-ops and internships in high school, along with a bulked up dual-credit class program).

I know Fayette County Schools has had a STEAM academy for about a decade now, and Paintsville Independent Schools are currently pushing for one. I didn't realize athletics was a part of any of their programs, though.

Pickleball seems like it's a pretty obvious expansion opportunity for the KHSAA. I know several schools in NKY currently have pickleball intramurals and/or pickleball clubs. That's yet another coaching stipend for schools to have to include into their budgets, though, plus more officials for the KHSAA to come up with.

This is an issue that the KHSAA needs to resolve soon. The current basketball (and almost all sports) alignment is based on the initial product from 1933, adjusted in 1966, and again in 2005. The problem is the number of schools in some parts of the state has grown while other areas have shrunk. The KHSAA continues to attempt to band-aid this problem but I believe it is past time to do a complete overhaul. No region should have fewer than 16 teams and no district should have fewer than 4 teams. If that means some schools have to move out of their traditional homes, then so be it.

Agreed.  When Hopkinsville and Christian County complete their merge after this year, it means no region west of the 4th will have more than 15 teams in it.  And some of those it is fair to question how much you can rely on them.  If Cloverport, or Heritage Christian Academy, or even Community Christian one day decided to stop playing, would it be the most surprising thing? Or Fulton County and Fulton City finally getting smart and merging? Which would lower those that much further.

Alternatively, I could see merit in swapping to a super regional format as the 15th did, to overcome those challenges.  But it is high past time to do SOMETHING. To echo your other Simpson's image:

Admittedly I haven't ever been to a single high school tennis match in my life (my sincerest apologies to Coach Hertsenberg at Cov Cath, lol). Are the matches self-officiated by coaches and players? Who is making the calls on faults and close-calls out of bounds?

Players call in and out on their side of the court. If you think that you are being cheated you can call for a line judge, and then the coaches (or someone appointed by them) will step in and be the judge of in and out. And it doesn't happen very often that a kid calls for a line judge.
