12th Region: Week 11

The Courier Journal rankings, have the 12th as follows: 1) DCA, 2) Wayne Co., 3) Somerset, 4) Pulaski Co. and 5) Rockcastle Co.   Can't wait for that 47th District Semifinal next week!  It will be epic.

  • The meeting was today. I know Danville plays Lincoln and Garrard plays KSD on Monday, then both boys semifinals are on Wednesday and the final is Friday.

  • Oh I know, but good talking points.  That's the whole point of the board ?.

  • I agree that Drakeford could really help Boyle in the tourney. If they will keep Driver inside and let him do what he does best, defend and get on the boards. Boyle can beat anyone in district and reg

I will, barring any upsets this week, almost certainly have Wayne County at the top of the rankings after last night. And they are certainly playing the best at this moment. However, DCA probably is the more complete team. Neither are deep and both, as has been said may times, have been dealing with injury problems. I believe these two teams are destined to meet again in the regional tournament.

The Rockcastle - Pulaski game is extremely intriguing to me. Pulaski has lost their shine from earlier in the year. Rockcastle is probably playing their best basketball of the past 2 years right now. And Pulaski has beaten them twice. It is EXTREMELY difficult to beat a quality team 3 times. Also, it is on a neutral court at Casey County. It will be so much fun. Anyone know of any streaming, audio and/or visual?

What about Somerset going there and being right in the game without their 2nd Leading scorer/Leading Rebounder/Best Perimeter defender in Kole Grundy.  Grundy would've been tasked with Phillips.  Taking nothing away from Wayne Co, but that's a big absence for Somerset.  I think there is an argument for DCA to be 3rd @ this moment.  They have been skating by their district opponents the last few weeks, and is the 45th that strong this year?  I think all those teams have question marks, but capable on any given night.

Casey Co. is streaming the whole 47th District tournament, so it should be on Hudl Fan.

I was really impressed with Somerset in their ability to make the extra pass and always seem to take good open shots.  They are very well coached and the best passing team I have seen so far in the region.  They don't seem to be all that athletic but make up with it with smart play and good ball movement.  Absher is an impressive player but may need to take over a little more in tourney time.

That is a good argument for Somerset.  They have just been on an absolute tear in this second half of the season. Yes, if they don't slip up this week I could see them also jumping DCA.

To @RVaughn's point, look at Somerset's schedule overall and you can definitely see that they are trending towards a more methodical, intentional style that results in games in the 40s and 50s more than the 60s and 70s. That helps diminish any impact more athletic teams have on them.

Throw the ranking out the window, the real season starts next week.

Look at these elimination games next week. I could see every one of them coming down to the wire.

  • Lincoln/Danville then the winner vs. DCA
  • Boyle/Garrard
  • East/Mercer
  • Pulaski/Rockcastle
  • Both games in the 48th, whoever is playing

Agree, however I think Wayne is pretty safe.  SCS has really tailed off the last month.  Capable, but unlikely.  Garrard and Rock are in very sim. positions IMO, both are SR heavy and have to get over a mental hurdle against a more tradition rich program in an elimination game.  That's the game within the game in-between the ears.

That's exactly what I mean, who beat this team back in December means nothing.  It's a brand new season for some of these teams.  It's now or never.

Do we have a bracket for the 45th yet with dates and times? It is going to be a fun one ?!

He was always a quality player coming up in the system at Mercer Co.  I was wondering why he wasn't getting much run too.  Boyle has a lot of the same player.  Their 4 position is over packed with guys.

Drakeford started for Mercer as a freshman as their PG.   Driver and Drakeford are the only two players on Boyle's team that have ever scored a point in the region tourney.    45th is really down with Lincoln under 500 for the year and Boyle barely over 500.  I think DCA is the favorite but wouldn't surprise me if Lincoln, Boyle or even Danville as a Darkhorse to win it.  Lincoln has the best guard in Baird, Reed at Danville might be next best guard.  DCA has best overall player in the district with Ateny with Driver being the next overall best player.

But that's not locked in yet, right? What is the tiebreaker if McCreary and Somerset Christian both have just one win in the district and it is against eachother?

I believe in the 48th, it's the team that won head to head in the last meeting. That would put Somerset Christian as the 4 seed no matter what happens between Wayne and McCreary tonight.

Lincoln plays the toughest schedule in the 12th Region.
