After announcing earlier this month he was stepping down at Utah after the season, he has aggreed to a 5 year contract at Michigan.

Decent hire.  He is not the long term solution (he's 66) but he will stabilize a very chaotic situation in Ann Arbor.  He can get them on the right track while they plan for the long term future (hopefully with new voices calling the shots because it sounds like UM, behind the scenes, has been a disaster)

Putting my Michigan hat on (not really but you know what I mean) I think it is a solid hire.  I understand he is a straightforward man/coach and his Utah teams were very good.  This is what Google AI says about him:

I think this is a good hirer for Michigan.

Sounds very Big Tenish. I agree that it is a good hire. Hard to see him not having success at Michigan.
