Round 1

Cam O'Hara (QB, Cooper)

🗞️ | South Oldham wasn't letting go. They'd kept Cooper within arm's reach for three quarters before O'Hara “mist”-ified the Dragons with a 19 yard touchdown run, vanishing into the fog that was threatening to consume the field of play. The passing numbers were pretty mid - 9/15 for 133 and a TD - but his exploitation of mother nature helped keep alive his legacy building pursuit of a championship.

Season so far: 116/201 (57%) for 1,966 yards and 22 touchdowns with 5 interceptions | 2 rushing touchdowns

Cash Harney (QB, Covington Catholic)

🗞️ | It's been a minute since we've heard from Harney. He's spent the last couple of games fine tuning his arm in preparation for a run to Kroger Field. He was sharp against Boyd County, completing 14/17 throws for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Season so far: 111/165 (67%) for 1,852 yards and 14 touchdowns with 6 interceptions | 766 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns | 1 receiving touchdown

Mason Trimble (QB, Saint Xavier)

🗞️ | Southern is aptly named, because things went south for the Trojans in a hurry as Trimble completed the first of his four touchdown passes just 14 seconds into the game. He finished with three more touchdown passes than incompletions.

Season so far: 129/185 (69%) for 1,612 yards and 21 touchdowns with 4 interceptions | 269 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns

Marlon Harbin III (ATH, Saint Xavier)

🗞️ | Light work was the norm for the first round. Harbin touched the ball five times, accumulating 73 yards and two touchdowns to help shellac Southern.

Season so far: 47 carries for 315 yards and 8 touchdowns | 46 receptions for 534 yards and 8 touchdowns | 2 kick return touchdowns | 36 tackles | 2 interceptions | 1 scoop and score

Kaleb Evans (QB, Lloyd Memorial)

🗞️ | This week's recipient of the “William Tell Marksmanship Award” 🎯 was a no-brainer as Evans completed a perfect 9/9 attempts with five touchdown passes against Bath County.
Season so far: 121/172 (70%) for 1,861 yards and 29 touchdowns with 5 interceptions | 1 rushing touchdown

Lucas Tompkins (WR/DB, North Oldham)

🗞️ | North’s all-time leading receiver added 102 more yards to the career total and a pair of touchdowns against Grant County. The two-way standout simultaneously leads the state in touchdown receptions and interceptions, possibly an unprecedented feat.
Season so far: 61 receptions for 1,020 yards and 20 touchdowns | 7 interceptions, including a pick-six

Evan Hampton (RB, Owensboro)

🗞️ | First carry against Grayson County went for 25 yards and a touchdown. First carry of the second half covered 55 yards and a second score. Hampton should have fresh legs for a deep playoff push after averaging 7-8 rushes per game over the last five.
Season so far: 111 carries for 1,165 yards and 16 touchdowns | 154 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns

Kain Patton (ATH, Prestonsburg)

🗞️ | A master of efficiency, Patton scored five touchdowns - four rushing/one receiving - on nine touches as the Blackcats obliterated East Ridge. He's averaging a touchdown every 4.4 offensive touches.
Season so far: 118 carries for 1,764 yards and 28 touchdowns | 32 receptions for 656 yards and 6 touchdowns | 57 tackles | 2 sacks

Colin Daniels (QB, North Oldham)

🗞️ | Bounced back well from his worst game of the season, against Atherton. Daniels eased back into his groove with three touchdown passes on 6/9 attempts versus the more inviting defense of Grant County.
Season so far: 152/227 (67%) for 2,442 yards and 41 touchdowns with 3 interceptions | 129 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns

Markezz Hightower (RB, Madisonville-North Hopkins)

🗞️ | Our first casualty of the playoffs. Hightower's career ended in the murk and mire of the Swamp, where he failed to reach a hundred yards or the endzone in defeat to Greenwood. He ends his time in Madisonville with over 5,400 career yards, #2 all-time behind older brother Jeriah.
Season so far: 180 carries for 1,641 yards and 25 touchdowns | 116 receiving yards

‼️Milestones‼️
Keagan Maher (RB, Cooper)
🗞️ | Quiet, but always there when called upon. Throughout his career, Maher has been consistent to the point of disappearing into the background of Cooper's ascension. He made himself small to fit through narrow creases, churned his legs to grind hard yards, and served as O'Hara's release valve. Last week's 104 yards against South Oldham makes nine games of 100+ yards this year and 4,000 yards for his career. He's got three consecutive seasons of 1,500+ yards from scrimmage and 20+ touchdowns. The week-to-week, year-to-year repetition has made him essential when future generations dig through the annals of Cooper lore.
Season so far: 201 carries for 1,390 yards and 21 touchdowns | 308 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns

Trending Up  📈
Luke Fetherolf (QB, Lawrence County)
🗞️ | The chief engineer of LC’s offensive machine was in a zone seldom seen against McCreary Central. He completed all seven attempts for 365 yards and four scores, plus another 51 yards on the ground and a touchdown. That's 52 yards per pass attempt and completion. He's connecting at a near 80% clip with 18 TDs/0 turnovers over his last five games.

Season so far: 103/133 (77%) for 2,141 yards and 26 touchdowns with 4 interceptions | 541 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns

Indiana commit Jacob Savage of Ryle HS should be mentioned and is possibly the front runner.  He's is performing well on both sides of the ball against really good competition.  At RB, Savage has 144 carries for 1,089 (7.6 yards per carry) yards with 23 rushing TDs.  He has added 4 receiving TDs.  At LB, he has 102 tackles with 2 int's and a fumble recovery.  One may consider these stats low considering he shares carries with Dameyn Anness who has close to 700 rushing yards.  Plus, the name should give him a few extra votes.

He's definitely one of the favorites and has appeared in the watchlist as much, if not more, than anyone else this season. He wasn't included this week because his performance in limited action didn't do anything to move the needle one way or the other. I'll predict his return to the watchlist next week.

I think the winner will be a player that gets their team a state championship and I think probably Harney and Hampton have best chance to play in state championship. If none win a championship then probably the player that takes their team the farthest in the playoffs.

For what he is doing on both sides of the ball at 6A, Savage is definitely one of the top candidates. Leading a top 10 6A team in rushing with over 1,000 yards (#6 in 6A) and tackles at 100 (#9 in 6A) and counting ... Yowza!

4,000 yards and counting. Wow. The equivalent to 2.27 miles. I'm going to "guess-stimate" he could have ran that 2+ miles in roughly 11 minutes. But I am so much more happy we got to see him do it over 4 years. The young man is an incredible football player all around.

Hampton had 4 carries for 94 yards and 3 TD’s (3 on 4 carries) and 2 receptions for 23 yards.

@DevilMayCareHampton year to date is 115 carries for 1259 yards and 19 TD’s 10.9 yards per carry, 14 catches for 177 yards and 2 TD’s.  That’s over 4500 rushing yards on his career now.

I love where he's at right now, especially considering how the season began. The last several weeks have afforded him the kind of "load management" that should have him fresh for whatever lies ahead.
