It is a good article with a lot of information in it. 14 years old, so sad. According to Mayfield PD in the article, the male, 18-year-old, victim is in stable condition. Reads like a fight gone bad.  And from the article:

A livestream video taken by the Red Helmet Sports Network captured the sound of multiple shots being fired and the panic that ensued, as players ran off the field at Mayfield's War Memorial Stadium and sought cover while spectators in the stands appeared to duck and look around to see where the shots were coming from.

Watching that video is sad. I am glad to hear that the victim is in stable condition. The fear and panic you see as you watch everyone scatter for cover is absolutely heartbreaking. What should have been a fun Friday night at the game turns into an event that these people will remember for a very long time.

My first thoughts were:

1. How does a 14-year-old kid from Fulton get to Mayfield on a Friday night?  Did his parents bring him?  If they didn't who did?  And where were they when the fight/shooting happened?

2. Where did the 14-year-old get the gun?  Who's gun is it?  Where were they when the 14-year-old took the gun?

3. He is charged with first degree assault.  Is that because he's 14 and it can't be attempted murder?  I'm not an attorney and am curious of the law here.  But first-degree assault seems really light in tone here.

I hate it for all involved, but this is the world we live in, and it isn't a good look.  I live in Louisville, and we have a lot of shootings (although I think we finally have a good Chief of Police who is making progress especially compared to his past administrations), but Mayfield just doesn't seem like a place that would have many shootings and not at a football game.

1. Good question, but could have just been up there spending the weekend with family.

2. This could very easily and likely lead to additional charges for someone if that firearm was legally owned by someone in his life. 

3. I believe attempted murder and first degree assault are both Class B felonies, so it probably doesn't matter which he's charged with. I'd think assault is easier to prove than attempted murder. Afterall we,  or at least I, don't know what led to the shooting. It could possibly be argued the shooting was in self defense, we'll have to wait until facts of the case are out.

The 18-year-old who was the victim of the shooting was involved in a physical altercation with a friend of the 14-year-old who did the shooting. So I would assume the friend was the provider of transportation. That's one version of events I've read somewhere since this occurred.
