Scheduling is not that hard.

Pick up the phone and call somebody. 
Go to the big cities and play in Events. Louisville, Lexington and NKY have single and multi day events that a team could pick up one or two games against good competition.

There are ways and in Kentucky you get 30 practice games until the games truly matter

***this is not in any way a knock on NL or anyone else’s schedule. The traditionally good programs normally play all comers.

I don't know the answer to this question but does calpreps do girls basketball rankings/ratings and if so were they upsets according to calpreps?

I was going by the numbers by each team on the bracket you posted.  They appear to match up with the Massey ratings.  I'm not sure on your calpreps question.

So that is from the KHSAA and upon further inspection they are RPI rankings that only reflect regular season results.

Interesting.  I took a quick look at them and they appeared to match pretty well with the Massey ratings.  One weakness of these ratings is that they don't account for a team picking up some losses early in the season.  DCA is in that category because Grace Mbugua hadn't returned from her injury yet.  They lost 4 games before she came back.  They might be a little better than #29.

I think it would be a useful exercise to rank the teams based on their last few games (maybe the last 10?).  Some teams just keep on improving as the season goes on while others peak and even decline close to tournament time.

Not to mention RPI doesn't account properly for out of state games.  For football we have been over and over the Kentucky RPI and although it is mostly in the ballpark I don't consider it a valid metric for Sweet 16 games.  With that said, I like SHA to win it all and they are number one in RPI, lol.

On a wide tangent here, if I may.

CalPreps does not rank basketball. Their football rankings are the gold standard. I favor Massey Ratings over MaxPreps because I think they come closest to CalPreps in terms of data accuracy, ease of use, and have a "matchup" prediction function. 

Massey and MaxPreps do include interstate games and factor in national prep schools (IMG Academy, etc.)and home school teams. They both evolve into the postseason while KHSAA RPI doesn't. Downside to Massey is they only update once a week, so in a way as regular as media rankings. MaxPreps constantly moves and it's harder to grasp a snapshot with them imo. 

Massey is tied into state associations per their website, though some data gets garbled at times. MaxPreps crowd sources results, and I don't trust that for accuracy. The OHSAA ran into issues this year seeding their playoffs using them.

Massey Ratings predictions are 9-1 for the tourney so far. The "surprise" was choosing Frederick Douglass over a higher rated Simon Kenton. The lone miss was picking Daviess Co. over Danville Christian.
