I had to post this because this game ended in a way I had literally never seen before.  Metcalfe County held a 45-43 lead with 3 seconds left, inbounding on the baseline in their backcourt.  Tried to inbound to a player under the basket and basically through it right to a Warren East player.  She gets fouled attempting a shot with .5 left.  First free throw, nothing but net.  Second free throw, the same..... BUT a player beyond the three point line was into the lane before the ball got into the cylinder, and the official waved it off for a lane violation, and the game was basically over.  It was crazy enough the inbound mistake that led to the free throws, but I don't think I have ever in my life seen a game tying free throw attempt negated for a lane violation.  I can only speculate it happened because right before that she checked with the official to make sure she knew which three point line she could walk up to on the attempt.  Perhaps it drew his attention to her to watch on the shot.  I've already seen the "you can't call that in that situation" stuff on Twitter, but, I mean, what can you do in that moment?

Tough break for the Lady Raiders, they put together a nice comeback in the 2H too.

Bummer for the seniors on Warren East. They will never forget that moment!  What might have been???

Thanks for posting, that is a wild ending, and you're right, I've certainly never seen a game essentially end on a lane violation.  Especially one where the player is a crasher and not already on the lane.  That is nuts.

I saw the lane violation this morning. It was the right call, no matter what time the game is in. Correct call, the player should have been more aware. Tough ending but it is what it is. 

I’m not an official but I doubt there are many referees across the state that would have made that call. I’ve never seen it made in a game and it’s probably violated countless times. Officials just don’t call it and to end a team’s season that way is sad. 

Have to call it. It’s a violation. If the ft had been missed and she’d been the one to tip it in, MC would’ve gotten hosed.
