People on here are talking about Brown's coaching in 2023 he lost in the state semifinals to the eventual state champion and I never read any post on here talking about his poor coaching skills.

Not once did Burns have anyone close to being considered the best player in the region during that stretch. How many college athletes have been on these recent basketball teams in Woodford County? You have had Jasper Johnson (the best player in the region at the time), and this year was Boone who I and many others would say is the most skilled player in the region. 

Looking at that state semi-final team I am very confident that close to 50% of the coaches in the 8th region would have been in that exact same spot with that team. 

Burns has developed all of his talent and teams in-house, he doesn't magically get these "transfers" year in and year out that bless him with one of the most skilled teams in the region.

Also that state final 4 team had 2025 G Santonio Waide who is now at the Patrick School and said to be a top player on the team. And that team had 2023 John McCrear 6’8 F who was committed to Murray State not sure if he’s still there or not. So yes that team was absolutely loaded with talent.

Layton Starks: OLB for Ball State

All I am saying is go back and look in this forum from the time period and people from Spencer said that the players Conley Hornback, and Whitlock I believe were their names were touted as 3 of the top players in the 8th region and was going to wreck havoc on the 8th region. It never did happen. If you don't believe me go back and check.

People FROM Spencer County, maybe. One or two accounts (they are hard to forget) were constant with this, correct. Outside of that, I don't know that anyone really even considered it. Players like Dayvion Mcknight, Dionte Miles, Justin Powell, and others were talks of the region at the time. 

Go look at my recent post in this thread with that state semi-final team, NOTHING on any of those Bears teams compete with almost every player on the WOFO rotation. They had an entire starting 5 of D1 athletes. 

 

Woodford had Jasper Johnson two years ago and played 4 corner stall ball against North Oldham. They clearly can't figure it out. Not sure why Melo Boone's parents thought it was a good idea for him to leave Frederick Douglass.

A small town with zero previous basketball success being excited about having a possibly good team? I am shocked.

 

Those 3 studs produced one college basketball player. At Union.

Your point? If we are bringing up 6 years meaning when some of them were 8th graders, I would expect the poor kids to perform a little better during the regular season rather than the postseason.

They also almost lost to Owen County in Round 1 of the Region......

I saw Woodford play once early this season, and I can confidently say they were the most skilled/athletic team in the 8th Region. They almost beat St. X at the KOB, who did not lose to a Kentucky team all year. The talent of Sam Conley, Mabrey, Hornback was quite literally NOTHING compared to what Woodford has had the past few years. They were not "touted" as anything. Jasper Johnson may be one of the best recruits to EVER come out of Kentucky. Not to mention the amount of other D1 athletes he had on the same team. Armelo Boone is also ridiculously good, and not used in the correct way at all. Woodford is never prepared for any game. Coach Brown treats it almost as if it is an NBA All-Star Game.

That's true what about the earlier group when they were seniors losing in the first game of the district to a team they beat by double digits in the regular season or last years team that went to state as juniors lost in the first game of the district. I am by no means saying Brown is a good coach he is not in my opinion but Spencer has had some good teams with talent on them and have missed the region more than they have made it in the last 10 years.

I am very familiar with Conley. He was a very good player. I agree Spencer should’ve done more when they had him. But maybe Burns has developed as a coach from the years Conley was there until now coaches can get better just like players can.

You have no idea what you are talking about. They graduated their three best players last May, and their juniors last year were small pieces on the regional championship team last year. Your uneducated bias toward Brown is very obvious, but everyone from the outside looking in has the exact opposite opinion on the situation than you do.

No I said the team that won the 8th region last year and lost to Great Crossing in the state tournament. Why did those guys in the 22-23 season when they were juniors, they all played a lot as the 22-23 team only had two seniors and only one played a lot and they lost in the 2023 district tournament in the first round at Woodford Co.
