2025 Dixie Heights Colonels

Featured Replies

Dixie hasn't beaten Cov Cath since 07. They are 5-23 against them going back to 98. Dixie is 5-10 against Beechwood going back to 06. They last beat Beechwood in 20 and you have to go back to 14 for their next win.

From the 2006 season to the 2021 season (16 seasons) Dixie was only above .500 four of those seasons. Nine seasons were below .500 and three seasons were at .500. This is all regular season win totals and across two other head coaches.

Let's not act like Dixie was cranking out 6-7 win seasons on the regular or beating Cov Cath every couple of years.

I've personally seen Dixie on the football field probably 30 times in the past 35 years. The past 3 seasons, to me, looked to have been the most in-shape, fast, and athletic teams that I can remember

  • Scouting us was easy this past season. Undersized and inexperienced up front, stop Armani Gregg, and put the game on a QB’s shoulders we couldn’t protect. Defensively we lost a really good coordinator

  • Nice addition for Dixie.

I never said they were cranking out 6-7 wins on the regular or beating the teams up the road every couple of years.

I said, it's not too much to ask.  Seriously, they are essentially the same kids from the same area.  It's very obvious that how Cov Cath and Beechwood do things fundamentally as a program are far superior to Dixie.  There have been some close games against those teams over that time, but Dixie has been outcoached time and time again, and that's multiple Dixie coaches against multiple Cov Cath coaches and multiple Beechwood coaches.

In other words, why are the Dixie players always slower, weaker and sucking wind more than their rivals?  They definitely aren't smaller overall.  Do the kids not go to offseason lifting and conditioning with fidelity?  If not, why do they play?  If they are there and killing it clangin and bangin in the weight room, why don't the results show on the field?

Again, I don't expect them to become a dynasty or anything like that.  Just have some respectable teams on the field that can compete and not get their teeth mashed in every week.

I never said you or anyone else did say that. I was just pointing out the history of the program. The "not too much to ask" is asking for consistent results above what has been produced over the past 19 seasons (3 different HCs and any number of other coaches). or so. How often would you like to see 6-7 win seasons?

23 season had a 1 PT lose to Beechwood in OT. 7 point lose to Cov Cath in the final minute and a 7 point lose to state runner up Cooper. It also had a first round running clock win over Woodford. Looks like an improvement from year one to year two. From one of the previous posts due to graduation some young players were forced to play bigger roles than maybe they were ready for. That's the way it is at a lot of schools.  Add playing young and inexperienced players with a schedule of 5 state semi finalists, 2 runner ups and 1 state champion the results can be a little rough.

Complete win/loss record against Cov Cath is 7-44 going back to their first game against one another in 1975 ?

I've personally seen Dixie on the football field probably 30 times in the past 35 years. The past 3 seasons, to me, looked to have been the most in-shape, fast, and athletic teams that I can remember seeing play at Dixie. There were a couple of teams in the 90s that would come pretty close, but Dixie definitely didn't look to be out of shape or sucking wind in the last few years - at least when I saw them play.

It could just be personal perspective, and I'm sure there are some folks from Dixie that would disagree with me, but I've always felt - for the entirety of time that I've followed NKY high school sports - that Dixie's athletic programs just lacked a cultural edge when it comes down to it. They obviously have produced some great athletes, but from an outsider's view, they've never had an across-the-board buy in and "whatever it takes" attitude from 100% of their players in any of their major sports programs. That's culture. And again, I could be totally wrong about that.

That being said, I really do feel like Dixie has been on the verge of a breakthrough in the last couple of seasons. They had Beechwood and Cov Cath both up against the ropes in their games in 2023. They had a very solid game that fell apart in the second half against Cov Cath this past season. They obviously had the talent to put themselves into a position to win those games, and once you develop a team that is 100% bought in and dedicated to doing whatever it takes, those games turn into a win. I think Coach Burke is really close to having the puzzle pieced together. I think he may have a couple of puzzle pieces to work out in regard to his coaching staff, but I also think the other big puzzle pieces need to come from the school's culture and determination to just plain do what they have to to win games.

Nice addition for Dixie.

I remember a lot of kids use to pass on other Kenton County schools to attend Dixie and now it seems like it is trending in the other direction. Kids that went to Turkey Foot are branching out to other schools in NKY. There is a lot of good athletes in the 7th and 8th grade at TF that I hope Dixie can reel in. But....I think Highlands is about to pull in a bunch of young talent from middle schools from across Campbell, Kenton, and Boone Counties. If this happens and Dixie can't keep another pool of good athletes in house they will take a huge hit that could easily set them back 3-4 years talent wise.

Could you elaborate on his background for us that don't know about this young man.  Thanks.

This is an understatement about the talent at TF right now.  The 8th Grade QB has an absolute canon, and is accurate.  There are some tenacious 8th graders this past year.

7th grade was/is loaded with talent.  They have quite a bit of size and speed.  They were raw this past year with lots of  players new(ish) to football, and quite a few very large players that still have "baby deer syndrome."  They should be really fun to watch next year if they all come back to play for their 8th grade year.

Dixie also has a new Defensive Coordinator for 2025 as well!

I was trying to be modest with the talent evaluation but yes I can't disagree with you. Love your "baby deer syndrome" description. ?

That's what I've always called the kids that grow way too fast and are too awkward and just look goofy doing anything because they haven't grown into their newly giant frame.  And they look like baby deer running around, flailing their arms and legs and falling over.
