He is obviously talking about Russell.

That is not an area of the state I’m familiar with.

Its in the northeastern part of the state.  Both Raceland and Russell are "independent" school districts in Greenup County.  Raceland is 1A, Russell is 3A and Greenup County is 4A.  I would guess the distance between Russell and Raceland is 2-3 miles, very close.

Just south of Greenup County is Boyd County (4A) which contains Ashland Blazer High School (4A).  Those five schools located within miles of each other form a very competitive group of schools and rivalries.

Russell is about two miles from Raceland and a larger school. Back in history, these two schools played yearly. There was a 30 year hiatus to the series and it was revived in the early 2000 and the talk was Russell would win easily most years and Raceland would occasionally get the upset.  But, the opposite ended up happening and Russell stopped the yearly meeting. Sad. The money for the programs alone should have kept the series going. Heck, there was a trophy and title for the game. It was a big event.

The same with Greenup County High School. They ended up canceling the series with Raceland as well. The three schools used to have a county championship kind of vibe. But now Raceland is just too much for the inter-county schools.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to see what the Rams are going to accomplish this season. I think they are primed for a great season.

I hope they're back for many years to come. Those look awesome.

Vanderhoof does the "horns up" a little differently.

T-minus 15 minutes.  Putnam Stadium looks good for the opener.
