It appears, that every league, ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big XII has no clue what targeting is or is not.  There has been several this year that I thought was textbook targeting calls only to be overruled by replay. So, I guess my concern is we do one of two things. Get on the same page about that call, where everyone knows what it is when they see it, or simply remove it from the rulebook and all hits go! Way too much judgment for replay to overrule the call on the field. Just my $.02 worth.

I noticed a change this year on targeting with both the NCAA and the NFL.  In years past everyone would harp on it, talk about it, flag it, etc.  This year I feel like it has nearly disappeared and even the commentators often take a pass and act like nothing to see here.  In other words, I think something happened from above, like an area of de-emphasis.

Does the NFL have a targeting call similar to the NCAA? I never remember seeing a player ejected, but have seen roughing the passer, personal fouls for illegal helmet contact, etc. I call the NFL WWF football. I'm a college fan lol.

I don't know the rules.  I do know before this year, targeting was a very big deal for about three or so years, not so much anymore.

Not sure of the rule either but I THINK that since it wasn't called on the field the only penalty would have been a disqualification.  I don't believe a flag and yardage penalty can be added after the fact.  If that is the case then it would not have mattered a great deal in the context of this game.

Thank you and I wonder if "replay assist" is going to make its way from the NFL to College Football too. 

I think my concern is what someone commented player safety. Either we are going to protect they players or we are not. It seems to me any hit in the head and neck area, should be a targeting penalty, but for God's sake take the ejection out of the rule. 

I think the key thing for officials to look for is the launch angle of the defender.  If he is launching upward with no attempt to make a play on the ball, and makes contact close to the head/neck, then it's targeting.  I think they are looking at the point of contact first when they should be looking at the launch angle first.  

What I hate to see, and maybe the reason for whatever changes we are seeing, is when a defender gets low/prepares to makes a good form tackle and then the ball carrier gets low and they end up helmet to helmet.  I think in the past context didn't matter, now it does and we are getting some no calls when maybe there should be a call.

In that scenario, I'm all for calling targeting on the Offensive player.  How low is a defender supposed to go?
