One thing in common for the 3 Boyle County Mr. Footballs.........They all wore the #5 Jersey.

A few greats not on the list.

Matt Quinn -  1999-2000 Runningback.  Hardest back I've ever seen at Boyle.  He got you 2 yards if you needed 1 everytime.

Taylor Begley - 1999-00 team Kicker and the very best there ever has been at Boyle.  Went on to have a great career at University of Kentucky.

Donnie Coffman - (Late 60's - Early 70's DT ) I've heard a lot of stories on how great Donnie was from his brother Archie.  One for the books was when Bear Bryant called his father in Junction City and asked about his son coming down to Alabama to play football.  His father told him that his son was not going to go to Alabama and that Donnie was going to stay and work in the grocery store, and hung up on him.

Charlie Mayfield -  (Early 70's RB) My personal favorite as a child growing up and going to the games.

Kyle Lorton -  (Early 70's) Tight End and I believe the first Rebel player to ever sign a football college scholarship.

Mark Overstreet - (Mid 70's) Offensive Tackle had all the potential to play at the next level but lost his life in a tragic accident.

Brodie Overstreet - (Early 2000's) Another of a lot of All State Linemen from Boyle.  Brodie went to Wake Forrest and started as a freshman but his career ended during his freshman year with a eye injury.  Brodie I feel had a great chance to go on to the next level.

All mention has had great careers at Boyle but, I had a coach in little league basketball that was one of the best RB at Boyle.  Ed Sleet was a great RB and was probably one of the quickest backs to go along with Mike Harmon to ever suit up for the Rebels.

Coach Chuck Smith - The Architect

Mike Harmon.  Best running back Boyle had until coach Smith era.

Mike Harmon was great.  So was Ray Whitehouse and Kip Smallwood as a HB.  FB, I saw none better than Mike Edminston.

I will see Mike in Harrodsburg every now and then. We were both seniors in 82. Worked in Clyde Jackson’s cornfields w/ Ray Whitehouse. Great guys and excellent running backs… both of them.

Charlie Mayfield ... 1970 (notice the #11 on his helmet... in remembrance of Robert Allen Yankey)

If we were discussing which Rebel meant to the most to their team, Robert Allen Yankey would be in the conversation. He was their QB when the 1970 season started. Boyle scrimmaged Bardstown that fall and was the significantly the better team... according to my Dad and his former players.

My bad... Bardstown won the state title in 1970. Left that out. The 70 Rebels thought they were significantly better based on their scrimmage.
