The Sayre Spartans are the only undefeated Class 1A team left. They sit at 9-0 on the season. They have been a machine. They haven’t been challenged since August 30th on the road against Bracken County. They won that one 26-14. Sayre this week is on the road again to take on top 10 Bethlehem. This will 3rd road trip in 4 weeks for Sayre.

Bethlehem comes into this matchup on a two game losing streak and falling to the 4th seed in District 2 after losing to Louisville Holy Cross last week. This Bethlehem team just seems to be hard to figure out. They lose a heart breaker in overtime to KCD then week before and then this past week losing 35-16.

This matchup has kind of been a rivalry since it has started in 2019. They didn’t play in 2020 due to Covid I’m sure of. But this series in tied 2-2. These teams have seem to trade wins each year. Sayre won last year 46-21. If things stay true to the way the series has been then Bethlehem is due a win in this one.

This is by far the 1A game of the week! RPI currently could give the Spartans a very hard playoff road if they come up short in this one! I think the Spartans find a way to survive but this will be their biggest test yet!

Pennington to Coffman late in the game for a Sayre win!

I’m going with a convincing win for Sayre. But this will be the best team they’ve seen since Bracken County.

This may be the toughest game on Sayre schedule.

Either Bethlehem or Bracken County, for sure, although that isn't saying much. Per Calpreps, only five schools in Class 1A (Bellevue, Fairview, Harlan, Lynn Camp, and Williamsburg) have played a weaker schedule and three of those are in the same district. That said, I do think Sayre has a solid club. A big win over Bethlehem makes me think they could have a deep playoff run; a close game and the regional finals might be the ceiling.

Believe Sayre makes a statement in this one.

Sayre is very good, they are very hard to beat offensively. They are definitely a contender for state, which I’ve thought since early on.

Did Pennington just throw his first interception in 2 years?  Could not see well on NFHS broadcast.  Either interception or 4th down failure.
