Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons (5-2) | Apollo Eagles (3-4)

? Apollo Hopes To Turn Back Last Year's Running Clock

• M-NH rolled last year 36-7, outgaining the Eagles 444 to 142. That includes 200 on the ground from 5A's current leading rusher, Markezz Hightower, and 238 total by Kanyon Johnson. The latter sat out the win over Muhlenberg County before the bye week the Maroons just had. His status looms over the anticipation for this game.
• Can Apollo's defense step up? That side of the ball has been an issue for several years. The Eagles shutout Muhlenberg County last year, but were otherwise porous. Same story so far this season; shutout struggling Muhlenberg, but allowing nearly 40 points per game to everyone else.
• Johnson²: If Kanyon is game ready and Max is on his, fireworks could fly over Owensboro.

Series History ?: Tied at 5-5 since 1998

Is Kanyon Johnson hurt?

That's the $64,000 question. Unfortunately, I don't have the answer.

The dynamic of this game changes dramatically depending on whether or not he suits up. Without him, Apollo can throw everything they've got at stopping Hightower.

If he does play. How effective will they be with the passing game?

The Maroons are definitely a run first team and probably run second, too. Johnson only averages about 6 yards per pass attempt, so not a lot of downfield shots taken in that offense. I would imagine it's mostly short and intermediate stuff to move the chains or at least create the illusion that they can throw it to keep a defense honest.

He's not the most polished passer on Apollo's schedule, but they have given up some yardage through the air.

Apollo does give up some yards through the air, but they are one of the top teams with interceptions. This could be a great game. I'm looking forward to the Madisonville vs Owensboro game.

If Apollo QB is playing give me Apollo.  He took a pretty hard hit against Graves and didn't return to the game.  I think Apollo is the more complete team and has played a much tougher schedule.

A pick-six gives M-NH a two score cushion with 7:00 to go in the 4Q.

42-28 Maroons

Apollo gets back within a score.

42-35 M-NH

Under 4:00 remaining.
