Beechwood will travel south to visit the Owen County Rebels in a district showdown, game time 7:30. Is this the first time these two teams have played in Owen County?

On paper, this looks like a heck of a match up. Both teams come into this contest at 6-1. Beechwood is #3 in 2A in scoring margin at 32.6 per game and Owen County is #4 at 21.7 per game. The Owen County defense is #3 in 2A, only allowing 14.3 points per game. Beechwood is #5 in passing in 2A and Owen County is #7. These stats say this could be a high scoring close contest. Two things say otherwise. Owen County has played one game against a quality opponent and lost 41-0 to 1A #2 Campbellsville. Second, Beechwood defeated Owen County 67-0 last season.

Beechwood's high powered offense is led by QB Clay Hayden, who leads 2A with 25 TD passes. His top targets are explosively fast wide receivers James Cusick and Luke Erdman. RB Chase Flaherty compliments the passing game averaging over 100 yards rushing per game behind a big, powerful offensive line. The defense will be challenged to extend their 2 year streak of no TD's allowed in district play.

Owen County has posted excellent passing stats as well. QB Michael Powell has thrown for more than 1,500 yards in 7 games and has 18 TD passes. His top target is WR Brennan Lewis with over 500 receiving yards and 4 TD catches. The leading rusher is AJ Olivas averaging 73 yards a game and has scored 6 TD's. Owen County has only allowed 3 total TD's in their last 5 games, but we have to keep in mind the opponents in those games.

That is the crux of the question. Both teams stand 6-1 but the strength of schedule is a very different story. Beechwood has the 3rd best SOS in 2A. Owen County's SOS is #31 in 2A. What happens in this game? Can Owen County challenge the Tigers?

Starters get 3rd qtr maybe even 4th qtr experience for 1st time since CovCath.  Hope to see the D gaining some stoutness against the run.

This game actually should help Beechwood's KHSAA RPI since Owen County is 6-1, assuming Beechwood wins.

FYI - I heard no streaming tonight. Owen County apparently does not have anywhere for the Beechwood broadcast team to set up.

I am pretty sure this isn't the first time Beechwood has played at Owen County, but it was a LONG time ago.

On Facebook I saw a page Owen County HS Friends of Football page with a couple of posts that have a link to a broadcast in the comments, so it looks like the home team will have a broadcast.

All I see are links to fraud sites like always with these unadministered Facebook pages. 

I know Beechwood played at Owen County back in the late 80s because I was at the game.  It rained the whole night.

Thanks for the heads up.  This one will likely be over before it gets going, so I wasn't really planning on tuning in...

Here’s hoping both teams come out of this mismatch injury free.  Tigers need to be fully healthy for a long run back to Kroger Field.
